Did you check both the coolant sensors? There are two, one for the cluster gauge, one for the ECM, both next to the throttle body to the passenger side. Others here have had issues where, if the coolant sensor for the ECM is bad (specifically that one, not the gauge sensor), no-start.

Does the motor crank by hand (breaker bar or ratchet & socket)?

Is it an aftermarket starter/reman or Toyota/Denso?

Seems this is a common post here.

If the pinion is spinning, it's not a relay or sensor problem.

9/10 its your battery cables/terminals/battery. If can, check the voltage at the starter terminals, while cranking. Often, a bad wire will make enough contact to show full voltage without load, but under load, you will see it drop significantly.

12.4 volts shows a battery about 3/4 charged, which should still be enough to crank, but shows your battery is either old or not fully charged, so first things first is to charge the battery or try jump starting it and see if that changes anything.

also, repeat your voltage measurement while cranking, it should not drop below 10.5

    ,
Unlikely, but possible, is that your engine is seized, hyrdolocked etc. Hence the suggestion to try turning it over manually.

    This one. Has two wires.

I second this. What is the chance the timing belt broke and the engine is locked up?

Apparently I totally glossed over the bit about pinion gear engaging last night, I blame the beer. I'd expect slightly higher voltage, but that's positive (no pun intended) to see.

@Bucky422 just to be clear, did you have voltage and CCA tested just to make sure the battery hasn't shit itself? Local auto parts stores will test your battery for free. Even if the battery is relatively new? Just because you have enough voltage doesn't mean you have enough amperage.

Don't feel too bad. We get a post like this pretty regularly here. Thats why I said 9/10 its was a terminal or cable problem and not the starter.

Unfortunately, most people only ask AFTER they have replaced the starter.

Not gonna lie, laughed a little when you said this. But not a happy laugh, more of an uncomfortable, "Damn, you're not wrong, haha" kinda laugh.

I’m glad to see that the issue was only the terminal!

My starter was giving me the same issues for years, and it would come and go seemingly randomly. Had multiple shops look at it, and they all said the starter needed to be replaced.

Put in a new battery, and boom. Gone.
