You’ll get used to the rotary shift knob . It frees up a lot of console space .

Agreed. It does. It’s not natural yet. I find myself going the wrong way on occasion and throwing it in park. How’s your Ram been?

3 1/2 years now without any problems . I did have 1 recall for the drivers side floor mat that took them about five minutes . They did it in the parking lot lol.

That seems to be the norm with this 5th gen Ram. The transmission is butter smooth.

My 300k '04 titan is still kickin'. Its faster, and better on gas, and more comfortable. But its 1wd & will get stuck on wet grass.

Looks to be in good shape too. I envy people that can keep their vehicles for that amount of miles.
I always tell myself that’s the plan but never follow through.

Part of it is that I don’t have the skills to do in depth work when needed. I do my basic maintenance without issue but some of the shit I see guys tackle on this site I’d have no business attempting.

The one thing that helps is that there are so many videos and info available. But, even if a guy doesn’t tackle, say, timing belts or water pumps or front end part replacement it’s still generally cheaper to have a mechanic replace those parts then purchase another vehicle.

@Shifty the only certifying official poster whose qualified through his authority from God to deem a 1 gen’s rusted frame suitable to buy.

The ONLY one? I guess I don’t qualify, eh? Forget that I’ve been dealing with rust issues for the life of my vehicle which I’ve owned for 21 yrs and probably one of a handful of people who’s painted their entire frame in POR-15. Yeah, okay.

Bro, you can have the crown, take it! I don't want it

I'd add @N84434 to the list of folks.

Thing is, you're always going to get radically different answers depending whether you're talking to someone inside or outside the rust belt. People in the rust belt are far more tolerant of rust, potentially not to the benefit of those outside the rust belt to hear. On the flip side of that, people outside the rust belt are going to be far less tolerant of rust, and give harsher advice to those in the rust belt. It's a two-way street.

I'm just critical af about rust, and skeptical of every seller, so I don't hold punches regardless where you live.

You're totally right.... I bought my truck in Mass. I thought the rust looked "crusty but it'll hold," Toyota thought it was a frame replacement, so who's got the better judgement xD

After a bit of time on a dyno with my HP Tuner, my 2.5 gen 5.7 peak torque is now at 2,900…. With numbers higher than stock clear across the board.

    Do I win?

For what I have into my truck, I could have (and should have) found one out west or down south, and been done with it. But, when I bought the Tundra in January of 2020, I was only working 4 days a week (covid) and wanted something to take up my free time, so, in the end, I got a great education working on it, a great truck, and 3 1/2 years later it just works.

I am continually amazed by the FGTs on Bring A Trailer, but I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a truck.

There are definitely still deals to be had down here. I know two rust belt members who are actively in process of picking trucks up within 45 minutes of my front door, if not already gotten. Supply is great down here, you just gotta be patient and check all the places.

But for every pure-southeastern-rust-free truck you come across that looks good physically and is under 200k miles, there's ten trucks that are either 300k+ mile, beat to hell inside and out, or rusty-from-up-north.
