I recently bought a welder (Hobart 210) to learn on and one of my first projects is going to be building my own dual swing-out high-clearance rear bumper. The right swing will hold my spare while the left will be a tray for holding an extra cooler or storage container.

Once I finish that.. I'm going to tackle an even bigger project: a custom trailer.

    Also planned: 4.88 gears, long-travel, and 42s.

Nice. Curious to know if you can manage to get a high clearance rear bumper and still put the hitch somewhere and not mess with towing capability. Long travel is $$$$ and pair it with 42’s hahaha, you got ballsacks but I’m ordering popcorn

I think it'd be possible if you just mount the winch to the spare tire location instead of to the actual rear bumper (of course with the fairlead still on the bumper) ..or you could even get rid of the spare tire bracket itself to mount the winch up even higher, too. I gave it thought for a bit but I don't think I'd ever really need a rear winch on this rig.

    #cantlosewith42s

Probably my steering rack but -- to be honest -- I'm quite surprised it hasn't broke on me yet with the 40s. I think having the steering stops to avoid full lock-to-lock pressure helps (at the cost of less turning radius).

Wait... you said "planned 4.88s" as in you are doing them in the future? Is this correct? If so, how is your trans still alive?!?!?! I'd save to have a spare one of them. I'm on 37s and running 5.38s on my jeep and still see trans temp sky rocket on longer type trails. Do you keep tabs on trans temp? Curious to know where yours hovers at?

    Yes and yes.

I've been watching the temperatures with my UltraGauge. They hover just above 200 when offroad and moving at a decent pace with some obstacle action -- while loaded down with gear (usually extra 40 gallons of gas in the bed, too, with my auxiliary gas tank). It's jumped to 210 a few times but not often. I haven't tried any tests with tow/haul on so I'm not sure if that'll affect temperatures. I know it's not the ideal temps but with how modified my truck is I'm taking it.

Maybe I'm lucky or maybe what's going on in the engine bay is helping a bit to lessen load on the transmission.. I have the tow package (extra cooler), supercharger (and cooler), ram air hood scoop (plus heat extraction vents) for better circulation, and I have two 12" pusher fans up front (granted they're not right against the coolers but moving air is better than nothing when crawling slow with no winds). I also have an aftermarket grill that provides less air obstruction as compared to the stock and TRD Pro grill.

Tow haul mode won’t help keep temps in check. It’s basically just logic to hold gears longer, down shift less, etc while towing heavy loads. This also prolongs lock up on the converter and it stay in flex lock up longer, still generating heat. All the same work is still being done by the torque converter which is your #1 heat source.

Also, why do you have pusher fans in front of your fan? You are effectively causing turbulent air in front of your radiator for the puller fan to have to sort through and then pull through. Fans are significantly more efficient in a pull method as opposed to a push method. Seems like you are doing more harm then good.

Some IG digging says Relentless Fabrication but I don’t see it offered on their website.

Demello offers one that’s similar to that one.

42s are coming. Just waiting for them to get stocked. This is also a really old thread and the truck has changed a lot since then. But as for what was called out in the first post.. the truck is on 5.29 ratio gearing now with the long-travel arms stacked with my lift. Semi-recent truck photo below..

@AZBoatHauler is right. It's a Relentless Fab bumper but I guess they stopped making it. I sold mine a long long time ago. The Demello one is the closest one to the Relentless style of full plating.
