First thing in the morning when I go to start my 2000 Tundra, when I turn the key, it will start turning over but then die in the process while still holding the key! Sometimes it just clicks, and sometimes it starts right up. Anyone have any idea what's going on here? Do I need a new ignition switch? I checked my connection on starter and they are fine

Sounds like lack of CCA out of the battery. Seriously, a huge majority of these cases end up simply being failed batteries, and local parts store chains will check for free. Did you have the battery tested for voltage and CCA?

It's rarely the starter, too many people don't listen to this, and replace the starter before asking us here. Even worse, the starter is a pain in the ass to get to, and they make the mistake of replacing with store-brands (vs. Toyota/Denso) and it dies on them a year or two later, and they're replacing again :D

Quite often we see, if it's not the battery that's the issue - even on batteries less than a year old, quality these days isn't great - it ends up being stupid stuff, like corrosion inside the cables, bad connection at the terminal, etc.

Thank you Shifty for your help, however I did check battery and it says it's good from Advance Auto, and I checked all the connections from battery terminals as far as I could get without getting into the starter area. I don't feel it's a fuse or really for the fact that it starts right up after a few times of doing this, that's why I am dialed in on the switch. Not the key part, the electrical connector part

Have you attempted to bypass (jump the pins) at the starter relay when this is happening to see if it fires up? Just trying to diagnose if this could be a bad relay - note: some guys on here have had SERIOUS problems with generic starter relays on these trucks.

I usually link this video for people w/starting problems. Some info is NOT accurate. Like ... the fuel pump doesn't begin pumping until the key is in the START position. But in general, maybe it'll help you out.
