I see a lot of people come on here ask questions on amps, speakers, ect to upgrade the stereo on the tundra.
I am going to list what I feel would be a good upgrade without spending a lot of time or money and still get way better than factory.

I assume we will also be working with the Non JBL system.
I am also not endorsing any company or product.

    ultra budget
    Use factory headunit $0
NVX XLOC66x line out converter $99
silver flute 6.5 madisound $70 pair these speakers are really good
massive audio ct2 tweeters $79 pair these tweeters are really good
subwoofer blaupunkt 8 inch gbw801 $40 probable the best sub under $100
    subwoofer box build yourself $50
    5 channel amp CT sounds CT-800.5d $199
crossovers for 6.5 inch cdt ex-560 deluxe $79
amp wiring kit Amazon ct sounds $35
    extra rca cables $15
18 g speaker wire 100 feet sky high car audio $18
boom mat speaker baffels 6.5 inch $12
    nvx 90mil sound damping 40 sqf $89
    heat shrink amazon $13
    wire ferrule kit amazon $10
    wire harness tape amazon $10
    zip ties pack amazon $7
amp rack build use the left over material you built the sub box with
spray paint black, paint amp rack $7
speaker adaptors make your own $20
    other materials $50
    total $852

there are lots of videos on how to run our power wire, how to take the doors apart, how to run new speaker wire through the front doors. The NON JBL system is not hard work with.

For the ones with experience , post your list on what you would do for a budget system.

This is helpful - and thoughtful. Nice work.

But I need info on the JBL system replacement. I purchased a Chinese one on ebay that has been a nightmare (touch screen lag, only intermittent bluetooth, skipping).
Decided to buy a brand name - and that requires a CAN Bus, which converts the Toyota JBL connections so the plug and play, steering wheel adaptors work.

I would not go with the sony 3250 from best buy. It is $349.

Go to crutchfield and get the JVC KW-M788BH. It is on sale for $379. It is a step above the sony model you are looking at in every way.

IF you go with the IDATAlink install kit it should keep all the features, steering wheel controls, rear camera ect.

If you are replacing the radio with the JVC you can use the parts list above ( you would not need the NVX line out converter)
Just bypass the entire JBL system with putting in all new equipment.

On the speakers you can also go look at CDT audio. they run sales every month.

Just make sure that the speaker you go with will fit or will require minor modifications to fit.
It looks on the 2007 door speaker options are different than the newer tundras.

Ok thanks for the helpful info. My question is this: Why would I want to bypass the JBL amp? Isn't it better to use that than just the power from the head unit?

My subwoofer sounds a bit vibratey (if that's a word) sometimes - I guess that means it's blown - I'll look for a replacement. The rest seems to work - assuming your comments on speakers are if I want to upgrade?

    Why bypass the jbl amp,,,,

Because everything on the JBL system in the tundra is garbage.

The factory JBL amp I did not measure voltage to see the actual power it puts out, but I would assume it is not that much.

If I am going to put a new head unit, new speakers, new subwoofer. I need to go ahead and spend the extra cost to replace the amp also.

My take on the stereo. If you are going to keep the truck for a couple years and drive a lot, and like music. Replace the entire jbl system.

If you plan on trading the truck in sooner than later, dont drive it that much, and are ok with not a great sound system just replace the head unit and go with that.

Ok that solves that - I guess. Then I would need to find a spot for a new amp.
The install kit you mentioned requires other stuff evidently - another $160 - not sure what the NVX line out convertor is for
