So what say you members of Tundras.com ? Seems everyone has an opinion on this one.

To me - it boils down to this - do what’s right for the dog and don’t be a vindictive asshole. Sadly - BOTH sides seem to have lost site of the first and seem to be entrenched in the latter camp.

The dog is 5 - nearing middle aged for a dog and as a K9 - probably not looking at a long career going forward. Now if the officer left on otherwise good terms - I’d say absolutely - sell him the dog for a dollar and move on.

BUT - the officer is leaving AFTER filing an overtime dispute for all the hours he spent with the dog - doing dog owner stuff - taking it to the vet, caring for it, etc. So he is in essence saying “the dog is city property I care for” when it supports his “wage loss” case - but then “the dog is my pet” when it comes to ownership. Sorry bud - you can’t argue both sides of the same case and win each.

I have little doubt the city has said - drop the suit/keep the dog here. And I have little doubt the officer has tried to negotiate beyond that. Hey - I get it, being an officer is a hard gig and the labor shortage is pushing many departments to up their pay and better jobs/more desirable assignments are out there. Bedford is an East suburb of Cleveland and not exactly a quiet little town.

At the same time - quit being an asshole and do what’s best for your partner. Quit focusing on what you think your owed and settle this - dog for dismissal. You get the dog - they get a dismissal. The case is a stretch anyway and your crying to the media about how he is part of your family just proves the city case here - you were not “working” when caring for him at home. Quit trying to compare it to someone who took city property home and had to take it in for maintenance after hours. Just do what’s right for the dog and your family and quit complaining about alleged pay owed. And to the city - quit acting the fools and using a K9 as a pawn. The officer proved your case for you - let him go to a happy home he knows and let the courts back you here. Sucks that someone left your ranks - but move on already and quit acting like a jilted lover towards their ex.
