I was cleaning out a closet the other day and saw that I still had my old 2011 Silverado / Sierra, 7 volume, maintenance manual set and some owners manuals that I acquired off of eBay (2011 Silverado, 2005 Silverado and 2009 Corvette) when I was looking for a case for my 2014 Silverado owners manuals since they give you a plastic bag now. Anyway, I listed the manuals on eBay and then thought I would list them on GM-Trucks.com. Of course, I had to have a little entertainment...they are still bit$$ing (complaining) about the HD radios that don't pick up FM and the 'Chevy Shakes' that GM won't or can't fix. Nothing has changed except the newer models do all have newer 'technology' radios that still don't work well...it was entertaining but painful reading

Yes it was my daily driver, def was stupid especially in the winter, always thought it pushed me because the idle was elevated. Rust was a major issue, after one year ownership. GM would not stand behind their product.

What a crock of shit. They wouldn't cover that? Wow. I looked at the Chevy brand but went with the GMC due to the fender flares so rock chips don't eat up the wheel well. I would have been pissed as well.

Yep, diesels are not Daily drivers, and the people that do pay dearly (as you unfortunately found out...so did I...twice). When people on here even mention a diesel I just shake my head and laugh. I have 12577 miles on mine, and over 9500 of those are towing or working. The rest are long trips or in the mountains/snow. My truck will be a year old in Oct. I tow a lot, and the people that do usually don't have a lot of issues with the emissions or common rail fuel systems.

You probably already know this, but you purchased the right truck for you, and there will be little to no issues for a longggggg time.

The duramax pulled like crazy. My wife's 15 denali has already had a torque converter replaced when it had 11k on it.

I just spent several of the last few months test driving F150s and Silverados. Never considered a Tundra. I sent emails to about 12 dealerships telling them exactly what I was looking for. The 1st dealer to get back to me had the Tundra I just bought. It simply felt tougher. I felt like I was in a Taurus/Malibu when in the F150/Silverado. In the Tundra, it felt like a truck.

If the Sequoia had been updated, she would have bought one. The 6.2 is awesome while its running.

Goodday All.i've been looking at the Tundra's for some time now.i've owned a dodge, ford, honda ridgeline, not really a 4x4, & now a silverado.i do all my own work. Here's my take so far.the dodge ram 1500 i had nothing but sensor issues putting the truck in limp quite often.the ford i had a lot of suspension problems in the front with cheap week steel pumped out from the factory.the silverado, yes us chevy owners can read, lol.ive had to put a fair amount of work into my 2012 silverado.fuel pump, alternator, throttle body,a new rear main spring.charcoal canister, calipers, thats maintenance,a new driver seat cushion.now body work due to rust in the north country.Factor in the truck had over 240000 kms when i bought her a year ago.Recently had issues with the transmission going into neutral on cold mornings when first pulling out of the drive.Switching to valvoline syn trans fluid solved this issue.a new rad.coolant pump & serpentine belt tensioner kit.will have to replace the ac compressor in the near future.the truck just turned over 320000 kms.the engine is purring just fine.the '06 ridgeline new timing belt went out & took the engine with it.coolant leaks.engine fans stopped working.Anyone wanting a chevy owner to chime in.Well You got one.

My old 5.7 Hemi Jeep had that cylinder deactivation crap. Really didn't save much on mpg. I still think that was the reason for the eventual stuck lifters that destroyed the cam and sent metal through the entire engine. There was a ton of horror stories on-line about that problem in all Chrysler vehicles with that engine. Luckily they honored the lifetime powertrain. I have read GM posts about their engines having the same failure and owners thinking the MDS system is part of the problem.
When I bought my 2019 Tundra last year, I didn't even bother to look at anything else from the Big Three.
I had no interest in another Hemi as I had a lot of other issues with reliability. I gave up on Ford and GM years ago.
A year now and love my truck, and I haven't been stressed by a single check engine light which seems to be Chrysler's most reliable feature

Thanks for the reply Petro. You've had worse luck than i did i feel.I've been looking at trading up my '12 silverado for an '08 tundra with the 4.7L.i was told that toyota still has the timing belt in this engine.looking at vids to see the work involved in changing the timing belt.doesnt look to bad.Just gathering info from the toyota owners to see what kind of mileage each Owner has accumulated & how long They've owned Their truck for as if i switch over to a toyota,i plan on keeping the truck for as long as i can.

    Yeah.
New to the Tundra club myself, but hope to be driving my truck for the next decade or more. We do have an old Corolla as a backup vehicle.
I was amazed when I was looking was how the high mileage trucks really held their value. I saw Tundras well over 200,000 miles for over $15K.

My daughter just bought a used 2014 4 Runner that's in great shape too.

Although I currently have 2 tundras, here is the truth as I see it. It's not as close as most think. I'll try to keep it real here.

The Chevy 1/2 ton is fine- as long as you buy one without the afm. That means it has the 4.8. It's a good LS motor. Transmission will last till 150-200 but is cheap to replace. They rust bad on the cab corners and such but tundras are not better in that department!!! Check the underside of the bed on that 2012. You can put your fist through the holes in my 2007. The Chevy will be easier and cheaper to fix, will get better fuel economy as well. There is no debate on that. Any backyard mechanic can work on it.

The 4.8 is not a great puller though if you tow.

I had a 1999 Silverado w a 5.3. Tranny died at 160k. Other than that, it was awesome. Over 20mpg highway. Pulled my 25' boat ok. I never should have traded it in, and just kept for a beater.

I think the tranny replacement in my Silverado was about what it cost for the rear bearing replacement in my tundra.
