Bully dog vs DAP tuning

That's understandable. Besides, the stock air intake works better with most mods, than the aftermarket ones.

 

I ran a bullydog gt on my ‘17 tundra 5.7 ffv for 3 years. I had zero issues with it and enjoyed a very nice driving experience. Great, immediate throttle response.

Shifting is light years better than stock; quick and firm.

I have run 35s since I tuned it and the tune eliminates the need to re-gear, unless you’re looking to do a lot of rock crawling.

Mine was hammered on in the desert. My feeling is that that 5.7 is so overbuilt, in every way, but more so even with the big ffv injectors, that there is only upside to tuning for better performance.

The increased fuel economy with any “performance” type tune on a massive V8 is a unicorn. More power, quicker throttle and torque responses, etc all burn more gas. It’s a simple equation.

*Oh, and what they don’t tell you, but Keith at DirtyDeeds told me: When you’re on the performance tune, you gotta run high octane or you WILL develop engine knock.

Anyway, ran it 3 full years. Lots of trips to the sand and other off-road adventures and the BD made it all better.

For me it was perfect and there are zero signs of any issues caused by the tuner.

It’s also nice how it allows you to customize your lighting, warning chimes, etc. (Haven’t had a car since the early 90s that didn’t yell at me for not wearing my seatbelt, until I turned it off with my tuner in the ‘17.)

For the money the BD platinum gas tuner was perfect for my needs. (And at first I was scared it would f up my motor, but not at all).

I also like that it allows you to read and clear codes very simply.

I cannot speak to the DAP tune.

 

Yes. Yes it will. And the Bullydog gives you tons of options. You can change the tune to your liking. It’s not just one thing that you’d better be happy with. If you’re not happy with the throttle response, change it. If you don’t like how it shifts, change it. If you wanna run regular instead of premium because you’re going on a long trip, change it.

 

Your findings are very odd. I run e30 in my 06. Untuned. Fuel trims go up a little. But the truck still gets 15-17 mpg depending on how I drive it.

only e15 doesn’t have any affect on economy what so ever.

 

Has anyone with the bully dog gt canned tunes had these two issues;

Flat spot on “performance shifting” from 1-2 3-4 shifts? My truck Boggs down when shifting, I removed the performance shifting and put it back to stock

Reduce power when flooring it from a stop, almost like it has a rev hang? This is on a regular tune, not stock or performance using 89 octagon fuel in an 08 2wd crew max.

Ive updated the tuner as of three weeks ago also

 

Shrek from DAP flew into the NW last night for his annual tuning event with PNW Tundras this weekend and he tuned my '21 Pro and a '20 a few hours prior. First time doing so on either year and there were no hiccups. Much better throttle response and no more gear hanging. Will be towing my 30' TT Labor day weekend.. we'll see how it does.

 

This may answer some of your questions about the BD GT gas tuner. I made a video of my 0-60 times without the BD, and then with the BD tune. I actually found that the 93 octane towing tune gave me better results over the 93 performance tune. I've been running the BD towing tune for a little over 5 years now with no complaints. Can you take a look and tell me what version software your running ?

 

@Tundra1D6. Have you tried removing he GT tuner, return to stock, and seeing if it still happens? I removed mine when I was getting DAP tuned. It was doing the same thing. I could let off and it would shift then act normal. The tuner didn't know what to make of it. Could be something in torque management. Wonder if the BD left any code when un-installing it. I need to look into it myself as I got used to letting of then getting on it when it shifted.

I have and it’s not really an issue. I’m at the point where it’s not really doing me much of anything. I run the lowest tune in an effort to not burn 93 octane. The trans acted all sorts of wonky with performance shifts so that’s turned off. It’s mostly a gauge at this point.
But I had hopes mine simply wouldn’t update or they have a better version tune now available
