    Hello Tundra people!
I've finally saved enough to buy a truck, and I am set on buying a Tundra this weekend. I've narrowed down my search to these couple picks. I just want to ask for your opinion in what you think its the best deal.

For your information, this truck will be used on weekends only and I usually only put around 6k miles/year on my vehicles. I do not do any offroading, but occasionally drive my vehicle to construction sites. I don't plan on heavily modding the truck other than simple cosmetic upgrades (grill, hood bulge, bumper caps, etc). Hoping this truck will last me 15+ years

    2019 Tundra SR5 4x4 TRD OffRoad - 29k Miles - $41k

    2020 Tundra Limited 4x2 TRD OffRoad - 35k Miles - $40.5k

    2021 Tundra SR5 4x2 TSS Offroad - 10k Miles - $41k - Leather seats

Thank you for the help! Cheers!

It’s hard because 2019 is 4x4 but the 2020+ years have the better options and looks (no antenna)

    2020 but I'm bias. That's the truck I got.
At risk of suffering the wrath of the 4x4 crew i'll say that 4x2 cost less to maintain, gets better gas mileage. If you're not towing, mudding, trying to get stuck in the sand at the beach. go with the Limited.

None of these are good choices imho....

Pic your favorite color, then find a low mileage Platinum or 1794 4x4, non-flex fuel.
Also make sure you get the larger fuel tank and adaptative cruise!

It's a weekend vehicle so you should get the most comfortable and capable version.

For what you will use it for, the 21 hands down, but you could probably find a better deal if you keep looking

The Limited doesn't have leather seats? Thought that was part of the package.

If you choose the 4x4, make sure the actuator works well in all modes. If it wasn't exercised enough it could be sticky. Not good!

2019. I think all or most of SR5 TRD Offroad had an SR5 Upgrade package. Also can't beat a 6.5 bed and 38 gal tank.

Leather imitation in wife's TRD PRO Sequoia sucks, I like my cloth seats + Okole seat covers lot more. Never too cold, never too hot, unlike in Sequoia, where it is always either too cold or too hot.

I don’t think I could live without my 4x4 but I like in Maryland/Northern VA. If you don’t get snow and like the other gentleman mentioned about not towing, playing in the mud, or it doesn’t snow, I guess you could go with the 4x2. I personally couldn’t.

I'd have to go with that 21 TSS. . same money for less miles that the other. . .and no point in the 4wd if you truly know you'll never need it. However. . The 2wd limited may hold its value better. . Being a limited. . Tough call maybe. .

Me personally, I would go with the newest and least mileage truck. Unless you really need the 4x4 but I am guessing you really dont if you are considering it. Also want to say that I am glad I bought out my 2020 lease and can't believe that they are selling for what I paid for it back then.

I did the same, local S&L gave me 2.1% and i shoved the check to Toyota without the dealer getting involved and nailing me for excessive mileage. Could not have bought a used one for what my buyout was.

I vote for this b/c I think it'll hold value best b/c it's 4x4; if you ever agree to play off-road with anyone, you may fall in love with it and you'll be pleased you have the option; and-- the reason I planned to post before reading the other answers, before I noticed 4x4 vs. 4x2-- the 2019 is pre-pandemic. Some of the "pandemic" assembled trucks are a little off. Not enough that you shouldn't consider them. But if I had the chose, and the the mileage differences were as you've posted, I'd go for a pre-pandemic build. The 4x4 is a cherry on top.

    I'd go for the 2019 Tundra SR5 4x4 TRD OffRoad - 29k Miles - $41k but I may be biased.

That's basically exactly what I bought in September, except mine had 20K miles and was a few thousand more.

I don't necessarily "Need" 4X4 or use it all that often but it comes in handy.

Not sure where you live but in some areas 2 wheel drives don't have very good resale value.

Of the friends I know who have a 4x2 Tundra no matter the trim level have at some point regretted not getting a 4x4.

IMO, CM short beds are a waste of money, if a truck is what you need.

Damn, you got lucky on the interest rate. Me not so much but it was still cheaper than a new lease at $650-700, wayyy cheaper.

yeah the S&L had a promotion for first time borrowers. one of the benefits of being old is my credit score now rocks because we've paid off everything.

Same sentiment as most mentioned above here as well.

My first Tundra was a 2015 4x2 because I thought I didn’t need it. Regretted it shortly after. Sold that one and got a 2019 Platinum Crewmax 4x4 and have been very happy with my choice! I too did a few cosmetic changes such as the TRD Pro grill, Raptor lights, Pro wheels, and color matched handles and mirrors.

I’d pass on these and go for another one. Plenty of them out there!

They all look like good options. If you don't need 4x4 the 21 is the best deal you can find right now for that config.

I had a 21 4x2 DC for $38,900 with 31k miles. I waned the newest used truck, 21 and low miles, still under factory warranty.

Even then as it turned out the cats had been stolen, replaced with aftermarket, back bumper was pushed in an inch on the left, which was really hard to tell, and thrust angle was off on rear tires, which I wouldn't have known if I hadn't had it aligned, so back it went to Carmax.

Just saying you can't be too careful and why I would be leaning towards the 21. Also from googling it's common for odometers to be turned back on vehicles, although I don't really know much about that stuff. But which one has the maintenance records? Does it correspond with the truck? Did it have any mods to it? If so I would be suspicious something else may have been tampered with.

I still loved my 21. After alignment it drove so much better. Can also update the center console software from Toyota website so bluetooth, CarPlay all work like they should. So don't let that influence you as even the buttons didn't work right before the software update.

BTW it looks like I'll be getting a new Taco unless delivery gets delayed and if so I'll be looking at Tundras also depending on what's available as I needed a truck last week. lol

I was kinda' torn on cab/bed configuration when shopping for this one. I had a '00 Access cab before this and I decided that there were way more times when I'd needed a more comfortable back seat for passengers than there were times when I fully utilized the longer bed and couldn't have gotten by with a shortbed &/or my roof racks. I do kinda' wish they'd split the difference, and offered the CM with a 6' bed.

Our "Fixer Upper" house stuff is pretty much done now so I'm not needing to haul much except dogs and surfboards these days, and the things I've needed a truck for this far, (freezer, spa cover, stuff like that) I've been able to do with no problems. If I need more truck than that I'll rent one from Home Depot for $20/hr or hit up my neighbor.

And if someone needs help moving... "Oh I just have this tiny little short bed on my truck".

    DSC_0196.jpg

That back seat was not very comfortable for more than a very short trip.

It makes the most sense to go two wheel drive for your purposes. There is less to maintain and break. The truck is lighter so it's going to get better mileage and there is no need to go crazy with the mods. Lets face it, 4X4's are expensive. You get a 4X4 and next thing you know your looking at lifts so you can stuff some 35's under it and it just kind of snowballs from there. If you have no need for a 4X4 then save your money. You will definitely get a better insurance premium with a 4X2. For me personally it would be the 2019 but that is what I have so I may be biased.

 I'm always "that friend with a truck". I haven't had to chance to use this in practice yet but for some reason I don't think it will work. I think I'll still be the one helping them move.

Being old doesn't necessarily help. I paid everything off and stopped using credit altogether. I haven't financed anything since 2003 and now my credit is blank. Was all good up until then but now I don't even qualify for a credit card.

Actually the very first stuff I hauled when I got my shiny new (to me) CPO Tundra wasn't even my shit! :rofl:WTF?!

My best friend called and asked if he could borrow the old outgoing truck to take some stuff to the dump. I had just gotten it cleaned up to sell, so I said "No you can't, but I'll come help you haul it in the new one."

But I didn't wanna get the new one dirty (our dump is always watered down for dust control and has very sticky mud that cakes on) so we just took it to my dumpster at my work.

I've pretty much always owned a truck so I've moved more friends then I can remember. So what's the rifle in your thumb nail? Looks interesting. So is the dog special forces?
