Yesterday was quite the interesting road trip. We had just finished our 7 day cruise and were heading back home from Galveston, TX. When I started the truck in the parking garage, I got a check engine light, 4 lo, VSC off light, and traction control light. Ran the scan tool and it came up P2440. I was surprised by this, since I had installed the Gen 1 Hewitt Bypass unit as a preventative measure. Unfortunately for me, I had not installed the block off plates because I thought it unnecessary since my truck had no issues before installing. Big mistake lol!
Anyway, I made it 150 miles before the lights came on again. Cleared codes, and off we went. Thankfully I was able to make it through Houston and Dallas without the codes popping up. When the codes tripped on, the truck went into limp mode, and it felt like I had little power. That would not have gone well in the big city. By the time I got closer to home, the lights tripped on very frequently, maybe every 10 miles or so. I had to pull over, shut the car off, clear the codes each time. My patience was very much tested on this trip! I had some choice words for the engineers who devised this secondary air pump system. I knew I was pressing my luck by driving despite these error codes, but we had to get back home yesterday.
Today I was able to install those block off plates, it wasn’t too bad to do. So far the codes haven’t come back, hoping that’s the last of it.

Moral of the story. If you’re installing the secondary air bypass kit as a preventative, definitely take the manufacturer’s recommendation and install those block off plates!
