None of that sounds like fun; but, it is proof of a life well-lived

Still fewer beeps in my truck than the wife's Pilot. Do I really need a ding every time I shift into or out of park, reverse or drive?

The seat belt alarm was the only annoying beep I had, have you disabled that?

My 2021 doesn't beep for anything. Whoever had it last, installed an aftermarket remote start. no door beeps, no beeps when I remote lock/unlock etc. Just a bunch of flashing lights when I use the remote to start, lock, etc. I'm pretty sure I don't get the startup nonsense on the radio screen either. Someone at the dealership was driving it, so not sure if they had special powers for deactivating all that crap. I had completely forgotten how much stuff beeped until I was in the Tacoma rental for a month. Then I realized how much shit they turned off in the Tundra.

Not sure if anyone else here has tinnitus. Mine is about the same volume as the noise you get in a 737 sitting next to the wing (not hyperbole); but it's 4 or more high pitched notes, not any low rumble. It's there 100% of the time, and in order to manage the shred of sanity I still have, I had to learn to not give a 5h!+ about it. That skill comes in handy with beeps the car makes, the PA systems in stores, the wife talking about shopping, and other annoying noises.

You're not wrong. A positive outlook, or at least enough humility to maintain perspective, goes a long way.

    I have neither.

That's rough man, but some good benefits!
Working in construction, it's been drilled into my head to wear hearing protection from the old timers. I try to always keep earplugs on me

I need to get some for when I'm on the bike. Not for the engine, it's drowned out, but for the wind noise. The screen on the bike puts the wind right at the top of the helmet and it's LOUD. If I stand up doing 65 MPH it's quieter than being seated at 50.

I heard (haha) years ago the people are often more deaf in the left ear if they’ve driven for years with the window down. Those of us that had a car without A/C will know what I’m talking about. I definitely have more hearing loss in my left ear!

I haven’t disabled anything. The one that annoys me the most is the six-dig alert when I get out of the running truck with the fob in my pocket.

Say I get home from a weekend of camping and get out to remove the sway bar before backing into the driveway. The kids and wife will unload too. Four doors x six chimes = fucking annoying

    Well, you have some options.

    1. You can try to fight the machine, but we've all seen the terminator movies. It's inevitable.
    2. Ban the family from the truck. If there's no one to open doors, there's no dinging.

Edit… it’s eight chimes. 32 total if the timing is perfect

This is just one reason why keyed ignition is actually better.

I agree 100%. That and it is a much more secure system against auto theft. Fobs are a joke

Yes, absolutely. Good to get in front of that with kids, too, and make sure they know how serious hearing problems are. It could be certain drugs, as innocuous as Sudafed, that contribute; but I have no doubts the 80db stereo in my truck, the many loud concerts (Ted Nugent and the Texas Jam concerts come to mind), and firearms w/o hearing protection when I was a kid were major contributors. It's tough looking back and realizing how stupid you were when you were a kid. Even tougher to realize you haven't changed much...

I convinced the wife to buy two Faraday pouches for the fobs for her car but I haven't convinced her to actually put her fob in the pouch when she's at home. However, I usually park the Corolla in the driveway behind her car anyway.

I have it in mind to run ground for the push start through a series of momentary push buttons. Not sure if it could even work, or foil any theif with the signal captured, but I hope so. I'll put 5 or 6 buttons on the little dash plate to the left of the steering wheel, so I can push a combo of switches with my left hand while I push the start button with my right. I wouldn't even care if I had to disable remote start. I just want there to be a little extra hurdle for a thief to clear before getting my truck. Maybe once they try the push start and it doesn't work, they'll give up and fv(k off.

I had a friend with a Ford with push button and remote start, and thieves hijacked his fob signal and stole his truck while he was in the gym. He found it's skeleton, fully stripped, at the impound yard.
