Best Offroad Suspension for 2020 Tundra 4x4

Hey group, I work in the oilfield and 90% of my driving is off road on some of the roughest roads know to man. Not only am I'm tired of getting beat up while driving these horrendous lease roads, I want to get the longest life out of my Tundra. What is the best suspension setup that I could get to make my drives less painful and less wear and tear on my truck. My truck is a stock 2020 Tundra crewmax 4x4 TSS Offroad. I have no budget. TIA

Thank you sir. I need all the help I can get. I have zero knowledge on what I need. From what I've read so far the Old Man Emu kit with new coilovers resi rear shocks and new leaf springs is a good set up. But open to all options. I'm a firm believer in buy once cry once, so hit me with the best of the best options.

 

If your budget is truly open, I’d probably recommend the Billy 8112 setup like this.

I run the 6112 setup on my truck but hope to go to this next. I’ve put 50k miles on my setup and it still performs great.

There may be better options - but I’d trust @memario1214 on best bang for the buck based on your needs and use.

 

Thank you sir. Iv looked at the 8112, but every thread iv read so far has been fox, ADS, King, and OME. Your the first to suggest the 8112. But as iv stated I'm open to all suggestions and just want the best for my application. I still drive on highways but after 49k miles on these lease roads I know I have to do something quickly or continue to destroy the longevity of my tundra

 

Everything I’ve seen / heard / read calls for 20-30k mile rebuild for the likes for Fox, King, ADS, etc. I think OME and Billies may sacrifice a little comfort for a significant amount of more durability. I know I don’t want to deal with pulling the suspension every 2 years for a rebuild.

 

Iv put 40k on my truck in 10 months so I need durability combined with a smoother ride

8112’s are spendy. Budget or not, your use will likely involve shock replacement every year or so. Most on road cars can get 60-100k out of a set of run of the mill shocks. Some off road setups have very short rebuild intervals. 40k miles of heavy abuse will likely wear any shock out and call for replacement or rebuild.

 

If budget isn’t a concern why even go mid travel? Lol

If you mean bigger tires , yes, I plan on ditching the stock 20s and going with some 17" Methods with bigger tires with way more sidewall.

 

More sidewall for the win. Save the kidneys!

 

I suspect stock 18" TRD Offroad wheels are more sturdy.

I'd install FOX. Have had FOX on my bike for a decade, FOX never failed me. I cracked the frame twice, but the shocks are still good. Only routing maintain ace according to schedule. Also wife's TRD PRO Sequoia is notorious for its smoothness on any road. When Bilstein 5100 in my Tundra dies, I will install FOX.

You'll have to give yourself a budget. Suspension starts at OEM shock replacements and stops when your money ends. Literally, the range is $500 - $20,000 plus.

There's way too many configurations and each has it's own set of pro's and con's.

Whoever is going to be the builder, let them know how much weight you're going to be carrrying. There's another member here with similar set up but had done some major modifictions to the frame for durability and strenght. His truck is probably the heaviest after all the mods were done. There are some midtravel and long travel suspension threads here.

Awesome. And no I don't need to get to the rigs at 75mph, but do have to hual ass quite often, maybe 45 to 55 mph tops, but most of the time I'm going 25 to 40. I hual nothing but myself and a iglo cooler loaded with ice cold beverages.

 

I can attest to the rebuild on Fox and it sucks. Regular spring compressors don't work due to the size of the coils and my Fox suspension seals started leaking around 25K after I had them. Though they offered a good ride, the fact that I needed special equipment to just get the shock out of the coil over and have to rebuild them made this a non-DIY project for me, with no option of just shock replacement, is a deal killer for me. I'll probably never get the Fox suspension again. That and they are pretty expensive. Ended up replacing mine with Bilsteins.

It was a while back and I put 5100's on at the time as the 6112's weren't out yet. If the 6112's were available, I probably would have gone with them instead.

I'm not a hardcore recreational offroader, but I drive in similar conditions to the OP for work, powerline ROW's, many in oil field areas. Those crappy roads beat you up for sure.

 

Yes sir they most definitely do. I go to multiple rigs a day out in new Mexico between Jal and Carlsbad. This area has the worst roads in existence and I drive about 3-4k miles on those roads every month

 

All right guys, I think I'm going to start my build with the Bilstein 8112/8100 combo or the OME kit with the leaf springs then go from there with 17" or 18" rims with bigger tires.

Which would be better for longer durability??? And if I do go Bilstein what's a good UCA to get to complete the kit, and would I need anything else for the Bilstein kit?

17 will give you more sidewall, so more squish, so more suspension, so more comfort.

The MCM arms are great. They do come with a uniball. They are stronger than ball joints, but take some more maintenance. Luckily, MCM uses a standard 1" uniball, so you can retrofit the Icon Delta Joint when you are tired of lubing them.
