What do you TOW with your Tundra?

Few days ago bought a 7x16 Haulmark to haul all my junk from Utah to Alaska.

 

6,700 lb cargo trailer.

3200 miles and six days later she pulled the 16' cargo trailer from Utah to Alaska successfully. Long slow going, averaged like 8MPG, but we made it.

 

A nice morning at the dock!!

 

A 1k mile project score! Man,towing is easy but I need an aircraft for refueling! Ha!



Yes, I know, she's squatting something fierce... that'll change soonish...

What are you doing to reduce squat?

 

I'll have new leaf springs and air bags likely...the OE leafs are starting to look like knife blade material with how flat they're becoming!

I'm going to try Boise Spring Works...custom made, priced well and they have an incredible resume...I was suggested from colleagues who use them and tow more than I do...they make great stuff for Tundras too when called...

I have trailer envy. Would love to upgrade to a Lance but Dave Ramsey won’t let me. I hate him!

The Lance has been REALLY good to us... Almost 7 years in and I've had ZERO problems with it.

We weren't planning on spending that much, but once I looked at Lance everything else we looked at was being compared to that and fell short, either fit and finish. or floorplan.
I wanted something that wouldn't fall apart and make our first RV a negative experience for my wife, and the Lance has made it nothin' but fun.

I just decided to forget about the purchase price and look only at the monthly payment being affordable. The payment is literally like 2 nights in a shitty motel, so as long as we use it, it's totally worth it!

 

CRAP!! Now Dave Ramsey is popping up all over my feed every time I open the Interwebz!

I ordered a medium duty AAL setup thru Boise Springworks today...they can literally match and custom make whatever strength one needs...just like Alcan and Deaver...about $400 for medium and closer to $500 for their heavy duty...I'll share my findings once they come in...about a 2 week lead time as their being made now...I wanted ride comfort still when not loaded and no matter what, this will be a huge upgrade in towing benefit!

This, except for vehicle ratings:

 

Maybe the tongue weight from the boat is shifting the weight to the rear of the camper which in turn lightens the weight off of the pin. Boom lighter overall payload on the Tundra.

 

My AAL from Boise Springworks is en route...merely a state away...should have it soon and will provide a review...

I'm not swapping out anything else so I'm hoping the improvement is a solid happy!

 

AALs are in the back of the truck...I'm not sure when I'll get a chance to throw them on with life being wild right now but I'm excited! I shouldn't need new shackles, right? 92k miles on OE setup...?

 

2017 Tundra Double Cab TRD 2WD SR5 never towed anything up until the wife and I purchased this 2023 Forest River Surveyor Legend. Absolutely no issues towing, only regret is the MPG and the gas prices here in California but hey I didn’t buy a truck to worry about gas prices! The rear end rides a bit low and I will consider air bags to help with the weight. Any suggestions on air bags are greatly appreciated.

 

No air bags should be needed. How heavy is the topper though? And the trailer? It looks like the WDH could be adjusted better.
