    going from this ...

    2018 Tundra Driver View Driveway.jpg

    to this ...

    2023 tundra wheels driver side.jpg

    pro's:

mostly the improvements are creature comforts.

    1. better stereo output (but then again anything was an improvement on the jbl in the 2018),
    2. heated steer wheel,
    3. interior warms up faster,
    4. under seat storage,
    5. better safety sense,
    6. better mpg,
    7. better ride overall (still need to have the rear end checked, bottoms out bumps),
    8. digital rear view mirror does wonders for 2 people, dont have to readjust it to the driver (wife sits high i sit low),
    9. digital dash i love since i can configure it without having to run torque app to track temps, like i can adjust from comfort to sport + modes,
    10. love all the different camera views for daily driving (so i can see how close the dummy behind me like to ride my ass, wife like it so i dont give her shiat for hitting curbs)
    11. love the power compared to the 2018

    con's :

    1. rear seat configuration smaller than our 2018 even without the underseat storage
    2. love the 2018 rear seats fold up better than the 2023
    3. not a fan of the blueprint, but its the only blue currently (wife requires blue no matter what), blazing blue pearl was our 2nd blue color choice, preferred if they bring back speedway blue
    4. not use to the weird noises compared to the 2018, still trying to tell what noises are normal and what are not (related to the engine)

biggest issue is comparing a fleshed out 2nd gen that has had 10+ years of refinement compared to a new gen with barely 2 years of refinement.

The only thing I missed about my 2011 Tundra are the cloth seats. Anyone know if the gen 3 comes in cloth

just get some seat covers. i imagine the reason cloth is going away is due to seat cooling. kinda hard for a fan to blow air thru a cloth seat.

At the new prices I would take my 21 lunar rock pro. Tunndras imo have increased too much in price for what you get. Most TRD pros coming out of the SET and GST region are averaging 76-77k. Platinum and 1794 hybrids are averaging 74k. From owning both trims I don’t see the value there. But I’d imagine my 21 LR pro is 65k now

I will add as an edit- if you don’t want a hybrid you can find non hybrid trims pretty heavily discounted. I was never interested in a non hybrid because I felt the hybrid model was adequate so without it would be a dog.

I hear ya , I have no interest in a double cab, but Im not so sure about your non linear power delivery, with much more torque and much lower peak, it pulls right away and keep going, also much better at altitude. With the 10 speed it keeps it in the sweet spot of the powerband better than the 5.7 6 speed did, it also does not have more sag because of the coils, especially with the air auto load leveling.

it also has a lot of things the older one doesn't, like more payload, more towing, longer bed on crewmax, rides WAY better, is much quieter inside, and obviously the updated tech is light years ahead.

I will say the V8 rumble can't be replaced, and I turned off that stupid ass fake engine noise, and its super quiet inside now, and I like that.

I liked all my tundras too though, my 2001 TRD with TRD luxury sport interior may be one of my faves, but so far this gen 3 really is a next gen tundra, the platinum interior is excellent and they got away from the hodge podge of materials my 2016 platinum had, that truck had like 4 blacks alone in it, let alone the area around the radio with painted trim and then fake machined looking trim.

well see how it does over time, right now I don't miss my 2016 at all

It does, however it has minimal adjustments, which was kinda a bummer for me. I would've been ok with cloth seats so I could upgrade to some nice Katskins leather, but the power seats was sort of a requirement. First world problem I guess

I'll translate from my 2016 to the 2023

2016 would rattle my teeth loose and I had 4 huge sand tubes in the back to make it ride decent. The 2023 rides awesome and I have 0 sand in the back and higher payload. That said, roads around here are shit

I had the same feeling when I got in my 2007 Tundra after driving my 2023 for a month. I went 1 block and thought the parking brake was on, and then when I hit the brakes it wouldn't stop. The 3rd gen Tundra is so smooth and driving wise pretty much better in every way. Only down side is that crappy fake engine noise but seems like it's easy to get it turned off.

This is one of those things that's often overlooked when espousing the almighty 2nd/2.5 gen's. It's not one of those things you actively shop for on a new vehicle, but when it's done right, it really sets apart the vehicle (meaning, everything matches - not the hodgepodge). When it's not done right, it can either fade into the background until someone mentions it, but it begins to really stand out and aggravate once you notice it. Glad the 3rd gen finally got that right.

I had a 2nd gen and two 2.5 gens . All were crewmax . Most recently went from a 2020 trd sport premium 4x4 with bilstein lift and 34s to a 2023 trd pro on 35s. I have no regrets simply the newer gens ride better and drive better . Technology is complete night and day difference . If you can get a good deal on a new Pro just do it you will not regret .

So the 2.5 gen takes a licking and keeps on ticking. hah hah. So you are saying with weight in the back as designed it rides decent. thats good.
I ride around with tools in the back plus other stuff and the ride is fine. But my truck is for recreation and projects. If I had to use it as daily driver empty bed all the time I would be thinking twice about it.
And just saying also. Payload needs clarification as it depends on what the individual needs to carry. Payload to me is what you carry in real life. For me I can put bigger TVs and Dressers in the 2.5 Gen Cab when moving and more weight in the bed over the Gen 3. Short Bed to Short Bed comparison.

ya, I get that. I was thinking payload in the bed, my shorty vs shorty , my 2023 has more capacity, I can actually get in it and not be under 1,000 lbs max payload like my 2016, which is nice, plus it doest ride like shit empty . my truck is my do everything vehicle, from towing my boat , to running to Home Depot, to night out on the town, to client rides, etc. so the 2023 platinum tundra is perfect, it can handle all the truck duties I need, but also rides awesome and has a much nicer interior for the other stuff.

On second gen 3 after two gen 2.5s, both gen 3s seem like a pretty good step up front the 2.5s, no regrets.

I love my 3rd gen and it gets as much as 19mpg if I don't drive like the intransigent local morons in town that include rolling stops red light runners and even the local law enforcement suggest me going 5 over the speed limit! duh go figure the math leave early and try not to hurt anyone. Friends,Yep I drove a truck for 30 years seen it all. just my 2 cents

Only time will tell how reliable these 3rd gens will be but I really like the 3.4TT + 10-speed drivetrain. I like the roar of the 2021 SR5 I testdrove but I got sold on the 3rd gen after testdriving an SR.

I'm on my 2nd 3rd gen because I let myself get "lured" into buying the 1st one. I didn't want the panoramic roof and I really wanted the offroad model. Good thing I was able to trade-in that truck at close to MSRP.

No regrets yet with this 2023 Limited ORP. Everything is still good with the truck at 1500 miles:
    • Wind noise levels are normal. I can drive at 70 mph with the radio off and hear not a lot of wind noise
    • I'm happy with the mpg (21.4 mpg on my last 300-mile trip... https://www.tundras.com/threads/1st-4th-with-my-2nd-3rd-gen.126938/)
    • I've figured out the AC clicking issue. I just put the AC control on manual and that workaround is good. I like adjusting the fan myself anyway
    • Cooling seats work really well and are quiet at either Low/Mid levels
    • Normal driving mode feels better than ECO and gives me basically the same mpg
    • I turn off auto start/stop before I drive. I wish there was an official way to keep the setting off.
    • I really like the digital rearview camera. The image is wide and clear. It reduces blind spots. It's not obstructed by tall passengers. The image is visible even to my passengers.
    • I really like the PVM-MTM cameras as well. The front camera is so useful when going over fire roads and makes parking this mall crawler is so easy. I don't have a tonneau yet so getting a video of the bed while driving is awesome.

I actually really like the new Tundra and would jump over if trucks hadn't spiralled into the ridiculous costs they have. Its a tough pill to swallow when i paid $52,000 CDN in 2015 and the equivalent model is nearly twice as expensive in today's market.

No regrets here. I had 2 2.5 gens and were great trucks. . Just not nearly as pleasurable to drive. The 3rd gen (even my sport) rides better, handles WAY better and is quieter. . . And tows much better. . I've said before that I have a hard time believing they will be as dependable in the long run but I'm one of those that will only have it 3 or 4 years but so far its been solid for me and I wouldn't go back.

On the day I was taking my 2014 Limited to trade-in, I took one last walk around it and caught a faint smell of deer blood coming from the bedliner. Could have been my imagination but I almost had second thoughts. When the dealership had my 2014 parked next to my new 2022 Limited I had second thoughts again. That 2014 was a great truck, which is why they offered me so much for it but I occasionally have regrets.

No regrets whatsoever. Went from a 2020 sr5 to a 2023 Platinum. I tow a 6000-7000 lb trailer regularly, and the 2023 tows so much better. The 2020 was always working hard and transmission would downshift all the time going up hills. The additional low end power of the 2023 and additional Gears of transmission keep me at low 2000 rpm consistently. This is the non hybrid also. I have 20,000 miles on the clock currently, with 14000 of those towing a trailer.

I never owned a previous Gen because I thought they were FUGLY AF. This new body style is a head turner to me and thats why I sprung for the Capstone over the Limited F-150. I live in Western NY and when I bought mine (after waiting 6 months for delivery) I was one of 8 owners in Western NY with a Capstone. That was also a big thing for me, not owning a truck that was a dime a dozen! It doesnt make our comments pointless because I have no regrets buying one over previous gens because I didnt like the looks of the previous gens to begin with! I've driven previous gens and my brother owned a 1st, 2nd and 2.5 gen...I would pick on him all the time about how ugly his truck was. They drove nice and they were all nice trucks but none of his prior trucks compared to the 3rd gen...Obviously this is my humble opinion.

The new Tundra is ugly as crap, and worse in almost every way that matters.

Finish is worse, reliability is totally gone, maintenance costs through the roof, no meaningful mpg increase.

    Hell to the no!

Maintenance? You get 2 years worth of oil change and tire rotation when you buy ANY new Yota. I'm getting 19.5mpg with 437hp...Please tell me youre only joking???

I can live with someone not liking the body style because all subjective but the "reliability is totally gone" statement is just a joke.

Don’t fall into the trap. The question is do you regret your decision, not do you like it. I drive a lot and I’m sitting at 43k absolutely trouble free miles. Had a few quality issues early on that are totally fixed. I love all Tundras but this one is improved in so many ways. Absolutely no regrets. It’s a complete pleasure to drive, it’s beautiful, and with summer gas I have no problem getting 20 mpg on the highway driving it normal, and my old Tundra would get 15 maybe 16 driving it not as hard
