So just got my new 2023 sr5 with the offroad package this weekend. Did a test drive, all as well, drove it home, all was well... then seemed like literally the next day on the same roads the ride quality turned... quite bad.

Feels like every bump in the road (that I've driven on for 3 years in a 06 Honda odyssey) is magnified and like going over a pothole. Not sure what could have happened, or if just didn't notice this earlier?

Am annoyed because the offroaf package is supposed to have better shocks. Not sure if this is just some part of the "burn in" or if there's something the dealership should fix?

i dont think the offroad package offers "better shocks" just a different tune, and if anything would have a worst ride since its lifted a little bit vs the normal tundra, meaning higher of center gravity, more body roll etc

my tundra ride is lacking for me as well, going over speedbumps, i have like a dozen at work, the bed goes over them and bangs and clunks all the time and feels like i am on leaf springs still, my last truck ram with coils as well - just glided over all the speedbumps with very well control/manners, truckbed wasn't bouncing all over the place over them.

Its as if this is toyotas first full size truck using coils, and feels as if rams been doing it and improving it for the past 2-3 decades, which is exactly it

I can't imagine comparing the ride quality of a 1/2 tom truck to a minivan. These trucks ride entirely too soft for a truck. So much so, that any load in the bed or hitch makes them sag horribly.

That being said, the off-road has more aggressive tuned shocks for off-road use. They aren't as plush as a standard shock on standard road surfaces, it will handle bad roads better. Again, this is subjective. If I jump out of a prerunner, my tundra obviously sucks.

It might be a good idea to trade the tundra off for a sienna. It will ride like a dream.

Mine too is rough when speeds are 10 and 35 or so. But highway speeds, off-road and towing its awesome.

I completely agree with you. Had ram 1500 myself for the past ten years and the ride quality was so much better than this Tundra.

I got non trd regular shocks, and they are bumpy... And can feel every hole and bump. It did get a little bit better when I got more weight in the bed with the camper shell now... And I can always get better shocks that will help with the ride. I'm not stressing about it anymore, at least this can be fixed with money. What I can't fix is the crappy throttle response and wind noise

I will say that coil spring rear rams may ride a bit better, but they are also the worst trucks for using as an actual truck. A couple hundred pounds of weight in the bed or trailer tongue weight and the truck is sagging and bouncing off of the bump stops. They must configure their payload including the bump stops as they are always in contact with the slightest load...

Is it only me that wants to make trucks back into trucks? Stop trying to turn them into plush cars and SUV's, there are plenty of those on the road. Some of us use trucks for their intended purpose.

Maybe just came down off that New Owner First Day High? Mine hasn’t arrived yet but is also a TRD OR Limited. Limited & up also have fluid bushings in the cab mounts. (Maybe you could add?) The TRD OR on my Tacoma makes it ride way better/smoother than the non TRD. Hoping for the same with the Tundra.

Give it a couple thousand miles for the suspension to settle in, it’ll relax a little. Also check your tire pressure. Iv always set my pressures for the most even tire wear with also considering ride and performance. Im running 36 fr 33 rr with about a 100 lb Diamondback cover. Limited crew 4x4 5.6 ft bed. No OR package. I’ll bump the rears up if pulling my trailer or loading up the bed.

My SR5 TRD Sport rides well. Came from a 2015 Ram. The ride quality difference overall is negligible. I will say the Ram did better over extremely rough surfaces such as railroad crossing. Other than that can't tell a difference

thats pretty exaggerated, the ram doesn’t sag with a couple hundred lbs or payload of tongue weight. That said , The payload of fully loaded 1/2 tons isn’t that high, although this platinum tundra I have now is higher than my 2016

Payloads with many of the 1500s has gone backwards if you order a crew cab full lux fully loaded and than start adding accessories. If you get a diesel in a 1500 it is heavy and comes off the payload as well. My Tundra actually has a higher payload than my prior Ecodiesel. Quickly becoming if you truly need capability 2500 time.

This. I drive an F series not a Tundra but can tell you it rode worse than an 350 dually I once drove for the first 800-1k miles than began to settle in nicely. Made me a big believer in suspension break in

Give it a few months and 1000 miles.

My one month old SR5 with now over 1k miles rides pretty nice to me. My only complaint is the super soft ride, which I'm hoping the Westcott 3/1 lift fixes a little. I don't mind a stiffer ride, which usually means no body roll and more predictable ride. I'm also used to low sports cars so that may be the reason for my preference.

Check tire pressure. Usually over inflated from factory transport. But beyond that it’s an SR5 OR. It’s not going to be smooth. If you want a great suspension from factory either the TRD pro or the AVS in the upper trims.

I'll preface my post by saying I haven't read through everything in the thread. Hopefully, someone has mentioned this in a reply to the OP.

Comparing the roads you've driven on for years with your 06 Honda Odyssey to how they feel with your truck is like comparing taste of an apple and an orange.

One vehicle is a unibody design built for family comfort with a low center of gravity. The other vehicle is a body on frame design built for strength, payload, and towing...coupled with an off-road package with shocks tuned for dampening while off road.

Of course a truck is going to ride worse than your family hauling minivan. :annoyed:

    Lots of stuff!
We came from a Ridgeline which is basically a car with a box! The ride is firmer in the Tundra, then we put the E-rated tires on and the ride got harsher. I put a level in the front and this didn't change. I left my tire pressure at 45 psi but could drop it down a bit to smooth things out.

Then I decided to raise up the rear to get a bit of rake back and put a 1" Westcott spacer kit in. I am amazed about how it seemed to get things moving in the rear. The ride is very different and quite smooth compared to the week before. I feel like I stumbled on some suspension magic.

If your #1 priority is ride quality...

might I introduce you to the "crème de la crème" of ride quality...

the "top of the mountain" of comfort...

It's like riding on a cloud, and the trunk space has about as much storage as the small 5.5' truck bed. haha. /s (In truth, it's like half)

The way I'd put it is multiple things can be true. Yes, trucks do not ride like luxury cars and it's unreasonable to expect them to.

Also if you're jumping on a trend to move to a car like suspension setup in your half ton that's designed to sacrifice some capacity for superior ride and on road handling, you should be getting universal pats on the back for ride quality. That's the reason why that move is made.

Otherwise you probably didn't do it right if you're getting basically the same reaction as leaf spring setups at the zenith of their development before they started to be phased out.

Because the natural question if you're not getting general applause for ride quality becomes why not save money and just have the best leaf spring setup you can design.
