Anyone experience any issues with their battery going dead? Truck sat for a few days and it wouldn't start. I jumped it and didn't have any issues with it for a couple weeks and just now went to get in it and it wouldn't start. Keep in mind I drive it every day so it's strange it didn't start this morning. Must have a bad battery or something...

    LED headlamps/fogs; interior footlamps.
What voltage does it read sitting overnight? S/B at least, super minimum of 12.7- what ya' got? And yes cells do fail at any point in time....all it takes is 1 of 6 and its over...

Interested to see how the dealership will handle that.
I called the dealership to ask what size/group battery our trucks use and, after 30min of looking, parts and service department had no idea what size/group it is and said "Toyota hasn't released a part number for the oem battery".
The battery says LN4 on it, which equals to a 94R group/size (this is all info gathered form the internet, not confirmed yet)

I'll let ya know. It goes in Tuesday for a different issue and I told them to address the battery at that time as well.

Mine was in the shop for other issues. It sat for a few days while waiting for parts and the battery died. Luckily it was already in the shop so the just replaced it.

Update...dealer claimed battery failed instantly so they replaced the battery on Tuesday. So far no issues. I was hoping it was the battery and not some electrical gremlin drawing on the system. It went in to have a cip replaced on the rear tail gate plastic cap, had another recall (told me it was for parking break?), battery issue and they had to replace passenger door speaker as it was rattling.

    ...and another one.

Left my 2022 Tundra next to 2011 Rav4 (with some random 2+ year old battery) sitting in the driveway for 7 days, exactly, and went on vacation.
Guess which vehicle didn't start when we got back?
    :/

    Color me unamused.
Had to jump the Tundra off the Rav4 (it still had power; lights on/etc, but wouldn't crank over).

Is this what we get from Toyota/Subaru collaboration?
Back in the day, I (and many others) had to replace batteries in our brand new Subaru Impreza WRXs, because they were just junk.
Replaced mine after 3 months of ownership!

I plan on taking the truck in for a couple of recalls to the dealership at some point, and I'll bring this up to them, but fully expect nothing to happen.
Alternator works fine, and battery shows 14.2V constant, while using the truck normally, every day.

its cause the old toyota's dont have a fuel evap reclaim system for the fuel system.

thats the stupid whirring you hear in the garage at like 1-2 am and people ask all the time.

it will kill a battery easily in 1-2 weeks.

when going on vacatioin pull the red lead on the battery or put a battery tender on it like you do for you fishing boat :)

Ohh, I know that it does EVAP (perhaps more) functions unattended, but wouldn't you think these geniuses @ Toyota would bake in checks to limit/stop anything like this from running, when the battery state goes down below certain threshold?

So now even with a "stronger/better" aftermarket (if there even is one) battery we all have to face a dead truck after 5+ days of inoperation?

What do I do if I drive off to the mountains, go camping/backpacking for a weekend+, then come back to a truck that wouldn't start in the middle of nowhere?
I'll be ticked off at best...

/me looks at the 2022 Tundra, then at the 2011 Rav4..........

This is not why I bought a $65+K truck!
(plus, see other real world example above)

I left mine for over two weeks in ultimate battery drain weather (northern winter), and it started up just fine after.

I wonder if you just have a bad battery experience, or if there is merit to the evap system theory as I wouldnt have been as affected by evap in the cold.

Subaru fessed up about a bad batch of batteries and introduced a battery replacement program.
My wifes '20 Outback was covered.

If this is at all similar hopefully Toyota will do the same.

So, a replacement program 10 years in the making?

    My WRX was a 2006!

    Anecdotally,
My wife's 2005 4Runner needed to have the OEM (Japan made) battery replaced...in 2017.
12 years!.......12 years on OEM battery, running a 400W+500W JL amps notoriously!
(no wonder she doesn't listen to anything I say, probably lost her hearing in that truck)

    Bugeye!
A good friend of mine got the 1st WRB Bugeye in NJ, when they came out (just like you).
What a car that was!..............back then, or so we all thought, right?
    LoL

Now when I see the vape-bros in their fart-mobiles though......hahhaha. Well, we all grow up (or just old) eventually.

Nice! Pretty sure I had the first WRB Bugeye in the Ike Tunnel / Breckenridge area of Colorado. I lived up in the mountains and worked down in Golden every day. Man, that car with studded snow tires was some of the most fun you'll ever have.

 Hahahahaha. Ain't that the truth.

I loved racing pickup trucks at traffic lights in snow with that WRX!
Hell, I even drove mine on a beach in Canada (loose, but not overly deep sand). Ppl took double takes for sure.
Loved that car when I had it. I'd drive one (or similar) again, were it not for kids/house/boat/bikes/you-name-it.
Maybe 1 day, when we all grow into the "retiree in a Corvette" stereotype.
    :)

    Edit:
    Found it!

I can't find any pics of my car after rims (gold BBS style just like the rally car) and headlights, only when it was new. No surprise as I'm that person that almost never takes pics, and smartphones with good cameras as we know them today didn't exist back then, lol. Here's when it was new. Bonus 2.5RS of a co-worker in the background.

    IMAGE003.jpg

I used to pass Gerorgetown lake every day on my commute. Did this once with the studded snow tires and it is the most fun you'll ever have.

Finally took my 2022 for "service" before the full warranty is up for recalls, door moldings peeling off and a couple of other random things (which it doesn't really need).
Anyway, I decided to put this down on the list of "problems": truck had to be jump-started after parked for 6 days.

Just got an automated text from the dealer (didn't know they did things like this) with a link to click on.
This is what they send (pic below)- I'm pretty sure that 2nd text wasn't meant for me. LoL

Skip half way and listen to the tech's comments regarding "accessories/etc."
    LoL
    https://www.youtube.com/shorts/v-ZmNi23ENo

I fully expected that to happen!
Like all dealers before and after them, as soon as they see anything aftermarket connected to the battery they are more than happy to blame it for any problems. I don't blame them at all; but I am 100% sure that I don't have any parasitic drain/etc in my system. Willing to bet that if I leave it sit for a week, and with a good battery, this will not happen again ;)
They will replace the battery "this time" but said if it happens again and soon they won't cover it again.....which is understood and nice of them anyway.
*I really expected them to balk at the this from the get go...

Let's see if a new battery from Toy will hold charge after a few months from now.

    Update:
Picked up the truck 2hrs ago from the dealership, with new battery installed, and guess what?
My radar detector (which I had in the truck since day 1) shows pretty much constant 14.0 to 14.1V now.

The old battery was always somewhere b/w 12.4 and 13.8V, depending on what the truck was doing.
It has always been this way, and I simply dismissed it b/c the truck started every day and who pays att. to gauges/displays after a while, unless something blows up. Assumed it was normal behavior, since it was always like this, ever since I bought it.

I can say with confidence that my original battery was "bad" since day 1, no matter what the service guys say about all of my "accessories."
(which don't friggin' run unless desired and the truck is running).

Why not just test the amp draw on the accessories? (you have an aftermarket fuse block in there?)

Its easy enough to do and will rule out. If there is a power draw then some quick math can get you an answer on when it will be a problem.
