Answer... I don't know a thing about body work and yes, the bed has been resprayed once that I know of. My son jammed the rear bumper up and into the driver's side of the bed. Of course nothing happened to his Tahoe Teenagers

There's so much info out there on the interwebs it's not hard to do a solid job if you understand the fundamentals and don't go overboard. I've got more experience than most w/single stage, maybe just an older-dude thing, or more-into-classic-cars thing. Lots of older single-stage jobs out there need refreshing.

I normally align every 2-4 years, depending, or any time I'm doing suspension work. A lot of times that ends up coinciding with new tires, also, so much so I've made a point of getting an alignment any time I get tires. It's a small price to pay when you consider it's hard to get OTD with new tires under $1k these days. I don't run a lot of miles, but ATL streets are horrendous, so it's warranted.

I think the biggest thing is that you're checking tread depth on your tires periodically to detect any unusual wear, uneven or otherwise. I usually do this visually, but once a year I'll throw a gauge on in case my eyes aren't great.

I've also got this thing about over-aligning. I think every fastener has a lifespan, so I'm not about to take my vehicle in for an alignment unless there's clearly an issue, or unless I'm getting new tires, or changing suspension somehow. Yearly alignment sounds a little overboard to me, but that's also coming from the guy who thinks it's advisable to align any time you get new tires, so take that however you fancy.

I dunno, work moved me up here a long time ago and I made a point of always living within 3-4 miles of work, and most of the places I shop are close by, so I don't need to leave too often, unless I'm running down to Summit Racing to get parts, or north of town to visit friends and/or camp/cabin, or get to one of my fishing/yakking/both holes.

I refuse to be one of those people who throws away 1-2 hours (or more) of their life every day commuting. I'm bundling up those hours and less stress to enjoy what comes after the work while putting up with living in a single family n'hood that isn't the burbs, inside the city...

EDIT: Work is moving soon, supposedly by next May ... so we'll see if I'm still close, but at this point, in my latest role, that boss is telling me he DGAF if I go in or not, which has resulted in me only bothering to roll anywhere 1x/2x per week, so I don't see that changing any time soon.

Damn. Hour commute here is a 70 mile drive. It's not as bad since you're doing 80 almost the whole way. I couldn't do heavy traffic and go 10 miles in an hour. I don't see how you big city boys/girls manage that shit. I leave for work at 6:50 and and drive 8 miles to get there at 7:00.

 

I used to leave before 5 am to get through the big dig in the morning going on in Boston. However going home was a nightmare and the lower deck bridge going from Charlestown into downtown Boston was backed up 10 miles on a Friday afternoon!

Used to drive I-95 around Boston so I could go faster but still get home in the same time. Still a nightmare though. If it was bad enough, I'd stop 1/2 way and get an ice cream and hit a bucket of golf balls at the driving range to wait until 6:30pm when the traffic started to dissipate. Now, like @Shifty, I just live 5 miles from work.

 

About to hit 200k miles what maintenance should I be doing or things to look out for

Iv done all the important stuff within the last 20-25k miles all Denso or Toyota dealer parts.

-water pump and thermostat (fresh coolant)
-dif fluid
-valve cover gasket
-injectors, plugs and coils
-pvc value
-tensioner assembly, idle pulley and belt
-new gas cap
-outer tie rods
-front brakes

I’m paying attention to the radiator, and steering rack. Going to do a transmission fluid service at the dealer. Drain and fill on steering and brake fluid. No record of the rear drum brakes being serviced

I drive 13 miles each way to work. Takes about 20 minutes with rush hour traffic. But I'm also on the edge of the suburbs and work in the county.

 

The Big dig is a thing? There's a mission in Fallout 4, which is based in Boston and surrounding areas, called the big dig.

That's just it ... They had me commuting back and forth from north-central FL to ATL weekly starting around 2001, and by the time I'd done that 18mos or so, when they offered to double my salary and pay my 1st 6mos rent to relocate, I already knew very clearly: If I didn't want stop-and-go traffic, I had to move somewhere that let me avoid the interstates by all means necessary. Which at 1st was the condos across the street, and about 20yrs ago became a house between the airport and work.

Basically, in ATL you need to live within a mile of where you work, OR live in an an area where you have the option of taking the interstates in low-traffic times, but ample surface-street routes also. I have a half dozen routes to work, at our old location, the current location, and I'm hoping wherever they choose to move (assuming they don't take my advice and forfeit 60% of our space back to the landlord).

Once you've established yourself in ATL, you learn as many routes as possible and interstate patterns so you never get screwed. The only downside is, interstates are usually pretty smooth, surface streets are murder sometimes.

I'm hung up in TOTK at the moment. That's part of the reason I haven't been posting as much. The little chunks of free time I've got have been spent drudging around in the the Depths activating Light Roots and raiding Yiga bases for schematics

 

The last Zelda I played was Links Awakening. I love 8 and 16 bit Nintendo. 3D has been great for serious gaming, but I think it ruined the classics.

I live ~35 miles south of the Atlanta airport, which is where I work (the airport is south of the city). But if I had to go any more north of the airport I'd do the same and move into town. The traffic in and thru ATL is awful.

When we drive up to North Ga we go completely around the city because its so bad. I mean who thought it was a good idea to merge two major interstates together right smack thru downtown....

 

My little sis and her husband live in Newnan. Only time I’ve been to Georgia was for their wedding in December 19’. After being there and visiting Atlanta, I have little desire to visit again. I should since they have a 2 year old that I’ve yet to meet. I’d rather them visit the west coast and road-trip to meet up.

 

FWIW, the mountains of North Georgia are very nice. Basically the same as Tennessee so I'm biased but it's a nice area. Atlanta is too big for me.

 

Not quite today but this weekend finished installing new Sony XAV-AX6000 head unit and Master Tailgaters metal handle backup camera. With the head unit also added Infinity reference components up front and JBL GTO’s in the rear. Also, scored a nice used set of carpet floor mats for summer use instead of the husky ones for wet weather.

 

I hate the wonky ass controls with 3D games. And I still think Adventures of Link was one of the best in the series. I revisited Link's Awakening recently on Switch too, and it's up there in my list. But BOTW and TOTK are just massively incredible. I get frustrated with the controls but it's incredible to me the garbage other companies are putting out, then Nintendo comes along and blows it all out of the water. All of the story lines, you could spend months playing a few hours a day and still not accomplish all the little side quests. I don't know how anyone could possibly 100% the game in under a month of constant playing.

I mean, the split does suck, much less so if you need to go up the I-75 branch, but even I-285 sucks at this point. Honestly, as bad as they are, as much as people complain about the city, spaghetti junction ... hell, anywhere 75 and 85 cross the perimeter/285 on the north side is a f'n nightmare, and the traffic on either interstate once you get north of Atlanta past 285 you're screwed. I don't know how that's possible: The traffic is worse OUTSIDE the city! At all hours. It's like the f'n 405 over in Cali. The only single worse spot in all of ATL is the I-20 eastbound exit to get northbound on I-75/85 (merging up the interstate when coming from Douglasville/Six Flags direction).

What really kills me is the S-curve downtown on 75/85. Talk about stupid, stupid design. It causes everyone to brake, and the brake just ripples backward until everyone is going slow. And any time someone has flashing lights on the side of the interstate, traffic stops to a crawl, and there's usually another accident not far away due to distracted rubbernecking.

We're spoiled. I have 3 routes to get me to the airport in about 20 minutes, even if 85 south is clogged. Only thing I hate these days is having to go anywhere north of Buckhead. Nothing up there but pretentious richies and bluehairs anyway, 90% the best food and dives are in the triangle between Westside, Decatur, and Summer Hill anyway. It's gonna suck soon for me though... thousands of new apartments are going in within 1/2 mile radius of our place. It's nuts.

Newnan is easy-peasy though. Land at the airport, I-85 is right next to it, jump on the interstate and you can make the 20ish mile trek in under 30 minutes. The fact you never need to go inside I-285 or north of I-285 is a blessing.

 

Fallout 5 is in the works, but I think it's a '25 release. I didn't play 76 either. Fuck that game.

Basically you don't want to be on the interstate from around 7:30am - 9:30am, although things clear up within +/- half an hour of either side. Likewise, afternoons, from roughly 3:30pm-6:30pm. I mean, it varies too, based on whether school is in or holidays are active. And reverse-flow is real here, Sometimes when you're coming into the city in the evenings the traffic is a fraction of the jam caused by suburbanites fleeing their city jobs to get back to vanillaville.

And these spots (below), regardless what time of day, always seem to be jammed up for me - westbound I-20 coming into the city from Lithonia/Covington, and the I-20 eastbound merging northbound onto 75/85, which has far too many lanes (4? 5?) merging into 2, then dumping all of that onto 75/85 northbound. I'm not including the north side of the city, and hotspots like "Spaghetti Junction", which can be a nightmare any time of day. North of the city ... I just don't go there. Traffic is worse than downtown, especially on I-85 and SR 400. It baffles me they have more traffic up there than down here.

I highlighted the curve through downtown in blue - that section is a huge bottleneck because of assholes who tailgate and use their brakes excessively causing traffic waves. There's a piss-poor article for 'traffic wave' on wikipedia, but this article and this article talk about the science behind it all in more-easily digestible terms.
