Anyone regret trading a Gen 2.5 for their Gen 3?

After having issues with a new Silverado LTZ and new Platinum F-150 I decided to get something more reliable and purchased a used 2018 Tundra 1794 with low miles 2 years ago. The Tundra is dead reliable but just does't spark that desire to turn around and look back after parking it. Although I have not test driven a Gen 3 the looks of it in a TRD Pro or simply SR5 with aftermarket wheels is more attractive than my 2018. Even the SR5 has more standard options than my 2018. Questions for the group has anyone regretted trading or selling their Gen 2.5 for the newer model?

What does your current truck look like? You could easily drop some money to change your current truck look and be well ahead of trading for a 3rd gen. But if you don't think that will do anything for you. Go with what you like.
I'm in the other boat, I absolutely love how my truck looks and the 3rd gen just doesn't do it for me. It has plenty of nice features but I think I have issues with it looking like a big Tacoma and I can't get past that.

Because I love showing it off. Blitz bumper to get a small bull bar and lightbar in the bumper, blacked out bumper and color matched front, the black Pro led headlights, Boost tow mirrors, and some minor color matching here and there.

I personally would be during one, 3rd gen, but dealer is smoking crack when giving out lease prices. So I will stay with my for a while longer.

I agree with the comment about modifying your truck.

I LOVE how my '15 looks. And I get many compliments and double takes on it.

Gen 3 doesn't do it for me at all. But the new interior creature comforts sure do look nice. I'll keep my prehistoric blown v8

The Platinum interior had me debating for a moment. The black and blue interior *chefs kiss* is well done in my opinion and plays to what I like.

Love my old dinosaur. I think the new truck is cool, don’t get me wrong; but I’m still salty that it is longer in the front, smaller inside, slightly worse visibility, worse ground clearance (can be helped with a lift), lost the best-in-class turn radius, has lower rated axles, barely better mpg and payload, and is more complicated by an order of magnitude.

Idk….love me 3rd gen. Went through two 2nd gens.

Its all relative and subjective to a persons want a and needs I guess.

    Previous Gen is just old.

I had some regret. When I got the 2023 I had my 2016 for 6 weeks after. I bought it new and just loved it. We take a lot of trips and didn't like the high miles. Never had a problem and favorite vehicle ever but getting another Gen 2 with low miles was getting too close to brand new. It was hard to sell, it was like new and the 2023 had so many safety features it was overwhelming. But the 2016 sold quickly after I made up my mind and I liked the buyer.

Stopped having regrets once Android Auto became reliable. You would think that's dumb but if it freezes no access to Toyota system either. Many times coming home from work with no audio. But that's fixed and after a month I got familiar with all the safety stuff and bells & whistles. Love the truck. Just took a trip and the active cruise control is so nice. Same with lane centering. When no one's around you set it and use both hands to do something. Like unwrap food. It's just great to drive.
What I like. Gas mileage, cruise control, stereo is phenomenal, android auto, LED headlights, check if its locked from app, start from app, no key, drive modes, cameras, rear view mirror is also a camera, under rear seat storage. I upgrade to 4x4 so that's new.

What I don't like. Auto fricken Shutoff, subscriptions, wireless charger, button layout for climate control. It looks GMish, cheap and clustered together, stock running boards tucked in too far. Hate the panoramic because I didn't want it and its expensive.

I don't notice much difference with power and shifting. Although park is weird in that sometimes it feels like tranny is worn out. Hard to explain and doesn't affect the ride.

2016 felt like a truck to drive 2023 feels more like a car and delicate. I'm really glad I upgraded my only regret is spending 200 for OEM mud flaps. Total ripoff. My other upgrades were well worth it.

I like that the seats blow air but miss the leather seats. Also miss the giant center console but like the safe. That really sums it up miss things from the 2016 but the 2023 replaces with them and they are generally better and some things much better.

I sort of dislike the new tundra in alot of ways. I own an 2008 limited 5.7 and its been just a tough sob, taken alot of punishment. I have this new one coming in next month, I can't imagine it standing up aswell. I really hope it does, And will eat crow if it doesn't. I really wish they kept the v8 in the line up, possibly a turbo 5.7 it would be an absolute monster. I tell you I am nervious about this for alot of reasons. I feel the the technology and power output of modern pickups is going to sky rocket in the coming years.

I think its an age thing. I had 2 lifted F350's, Dodge lifted 3500...... I loved my leveled 2012 Tundra with 34's. Head turner truck. I finally got tired of the bouncing around in them. I love my 3rd Gen but I will be the first to say, the lifted leveled look outstanding......but I am going with the smooth comfort stock ride!!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the 07-21 Tundras. I loved all the ones I had. But this Platinum has me staring at it every time I walk away, and gets me excited every time I jump in it to go somewhere. I just hit 40k on the odometer and have had absolutely nothing wrong mechanically. I’ve had a few quality issue things go wrong but the dealer fixed it right up. One thing I’m not happy about is my brakes wobble like crazy. I definitely need new rotors and I got over 80K on my 2020. I feel like this truck coasts so much easier causing more brake use. My old truck would slow down once you let go of the gas with the 6 speed tranny saving brakes. Other than that, the truck is truly advanced in so many ways.

Easy solution, don’t cheap out and level it, use real coilovers and new springs + UCA’s and bump stops and make it ride better than stock

It's a toss up, both are great ! Personally just can't justify the cost of the new model I'd want.

While I do understand your point. Some of us have been in his boat and are just pointing out why we don't have the 3rd gen. Yes, he needs feedback from those who have made the trade but there are also plenty of folks in the 3rd gen who didn't own previous Tundras making their comments equally pointless I guess.

Its up to the OP to decide which comments he likes and if he has issues with how folks are replying he needs to either mention it and shift how folks reply, or get the mods to clean up the thread.

After owning my 2022 for a year (and putting 30k miles on it) I finally took it in this morning for recalls/moulding/hesitation before my warranty runs out.
They gave me a 2023 Tacoma as a loaner.

1 min after driving away in it, and remembering how old and simple my 2017 Tundra was, I said to myself: I regret nothing!
(brand new Tacoma TRD Off-road feels like a 15yr old Ford Ranger :/ )

I sold my 2018 Platinum less than two years ago, and when deciding between another 2.5 or 3 recently, I went with the Gen 3. As some have stated, my SR5 is very well equipped even compared to my loaded Platinum. I guess it all really depends what you're looking for in the truck, but no "RAGRETS" over here exactly 1000 miles in. I will say, if my SR5 didn't have the 14in screen, softex seats, etc. then it may be closer comparison. Loved the Lexus leather that was in my Gen 2.5 though
