no, they already shown they will start including a 2nd fob by beginning 2024 calendar production.

edit: personally i would like to have 1 fob for me and gthe wife would prefer the credit card since she keeps 2 cards in her phone case.

Where do you have to tap it for the digital key to work? I’m guessing the ring around the start button?

You mean you can unlock and lock and remote start from the app. That’s not digital key

You are right there are a lot of dealers still doing that but some don't. I will be getting my Limited Crewmax TRD OR below MSRP with no added on dealer options. I selected the bed mat option and the dealer threw that in at no charge to me, not a big cost but nice gesture for sure. Originally my dealer said 8 months to get the truck (ordered it 3rd week of March 2023) but called me back a day after I put the order in that they were able to switch with another dealer who had the exact truck coming in July, so wait time was now cut down to 4 months. It should be here in 3 weeks!

Was, there a press release or something that says 22-23 will get digital keys? I have heard many people say this, but have yet to see anything from Toyota saying it. Where is everyone hearing this from?

Sorry for the dumb question: will the digital key require a subscription? Or can we "just" use it from the Toyota app?

I’m guessing that having to have “active remote connection” there will be a subscription cost to maintain that after the first year of ownership.

Thanks @ryanwgregg. So yes, a subscription. I suppose it's worth while as long as the subscription price is decent :fingerscrossed:

now i am just confused. My iphone has the app that let me lock, unlock, start, stop. my key fob can do the same things. So do i have a Digital Key? The phone works over the internet and i am able to do these things from anywhere. I do have a Toyota subscription. It also shows the location of the Truck from anywhere.
    Help me understand.
    thanks

Right now you’re controlling your truck via the web interface with the vehicle (need a cell signal to do so and a subscription for the trucks WiFi) The digital key uses NFC (near field communication). It’s a low power encrypted band in newer phones that talks directly with NFC devices. Very secure. Basically your phone becomes a weak Fob. It’s the same method used now for Hotel door keys and Apple Pay at a check stand pay point. Problem is it’s very low power. Only works within less than a foot away. So no starting the vehicle or locking from inside the house with NFC. Gonna be stuck with the Toyota Subscription for that. Basically with NFC you wouldn’t have to carry a Fob anymore.

I love my manual cars and motorcycles, but not having to pull a keyfob out of my pocket to lock/unlock doors and start the engine is nice.

I wouldn't mind a metal key though...I'm trying to make a deal for a 1985 Toyota Supra. I want to relive teen-age years in the 90s when I was allowed to drive around town in one.
