Just took me 10 minutes, which is 90% because each slide in their presentation has a timer before you can move on

Good to know. I didn't think they were that high up on the stock manifold. I just checked my LTH set up and I don't have this mod; my 02 is in the position as they shipped from Stainless Works with no defoulers.

For clarity my AFRs oscillate a bit on start up but steady out some. RPMS hover around 1K but I've seen them sit in the mid 600s after some driving but they don't oscillate as much as in your video. My set up is probably a bad example ECU has a relearning period and I haven't driven much since the truck has been back.

So a quick update on my surging idle issue. Muffler shop was able to weld a bung on one of the primaries on the passenger side, but they couldn't do it on the driver side, even after showing them picture references and telling them it's doable. but i am no expert at fabrication so I didn't argue and told them I understood.
truck does not surge in Drive while stopped. it's very steady. However, during Park or Neutral, it still does it a little bit but you can barely tell. you probably won't be able to tell unless you know it's there. Can't even hear the change of tone in the exhaust.
I can probably live with this. I would say it's already 90% much better than before.
But knowing myself I will still get the driver side done and the headers are not coming out. I'll just keep looking for someone who can.

i dont think they were that high up in the stock manifold as well. I had to use the extensions that SW gave me to get it up around that location. Prospeed basically telling you to get it as far away from the collectors as possible and well within the primaries

hmmm maybe there's a way to bypass the lock on the D3 software so i can go with HPT

And you don't have the A/C on or anything? How much "surge" are you experiencing right now? Since the rpm will jump around by probably 50rpm inherently, if it's not enough to even tell then how would you classify that as surging :D

I would think you could flash the ECU with a new tune regardless. I doubt the D3 software locks the ECU. I haven't heard of anyone switching from D3 (granted only know of like three of you with D3 tuned trucks) but lots of other people have swapped from HPT to/from other tuning software and there was nothing special to do that.

haha yes i turned off the AC even in this vegas heat. still same results super steady in Drive, and in Park, goes up and down about 100 BUT not every second. maybe every 20 seconds. so im not really bothered by it as much as it did before haha. Maybe that's what normal in stock form? i forgot already.

and there is another local tuner here with a dyno and he uses HPT. He said he couldnt "unlock" the ECU when i went to their shop.
So I went back to my installer because he has the only D3 software in the valley, rented a Dyno and dialed her in.

    Huh, weird.

Well if you still have issues, I live about 2 hours east of you near St George. Could always meet in Mesquite or something. But I'd assume the guys you've talked to are far more competent than I am.

Ya. I swear that I read somewhere, and I can't find it atm, that the engine idle speed is 700 +/- 50. So that's a 100 rpm swing. That can be changed in HPT, but that's off topic. ;)

That doesn't sound too unusual to me, fwiw:rasta:. The alternator could be cycling load and make it do that. If you bump the steering wheel in the slightest, the power assist will bump the rpms as well. Even my motorcycle's ECU will bump the idle a touch as the clutch engages, it's kind of weird and you get used to it, but it'll "idle off" from a stop. You have to really dump the clutch to stall it.

yea im not too bothered by it now. getting a bung welded on the driver side primary isnt a priority anymore, il get to it when i get to it haha. and you do bring up good points about the alternator and the power assist haha

I also have a local tuner in Vegas who has been tuning for a long time ( he’s at Dynojet). If needed let me know and I can send the info.

I have had my Stainless works headers on for a few months now. The surging drove me nuts in the beginning. Over time the ecm has definitely done its job and learned how to make the truck idle correctly. It has almost zero surge when its warmed up. Cold starts it still surges but i would assume it's just because it's in open loop still. Once it's warm and in closed loop it performs like it should.

Yes. I was warned about this especially if you reset the battery the first start up after reset can be especially rough as the ECU works out the delayed feedback loop. Mine is pretty smooth right now I am just hoping the cats hold up.

My cats didn't last more than a few weeks before they came apart. However, I never had any surging. I have the JBA LTH.

Yep that is what mine would do. Luckily I can clear the code on my aftermarket radio. Bada-Bing! I had my tuner turn off those codes.

I didn't have the surging with the JBAs either, started after switching to the ARH headers.

why did you switch to ARH?
looking at JBA lth, SW, ARH...the jba has straighter tubes and almost no curves and turns. maybe thats why?

ARH has an option for larger primary tubes and I got rid of the SAIS stuff at the same time, so I had them made without provisions for the SAIS tubes.

To answer the second part, as to why it started, ProSpeed said it was because of the sensor placement on the ARH being so far downstream...since the JBA bung is closer to the cylinder head it didn't have that issue.

On my new hi flow cats probably around 500 miles, on the old stock cats about 9.5K.
