I was driving my truck this morning and the oil pressure seems low according to the gauge. I was on the interstate traveling 70 mph and it didn't go over the 1/4 mark at 1700 rpm. Put it in low 4wd 1st gear and it reached the 1/2 mark on the gauge at 3700 rpm. It seems lower than normal, what is yours showing?

I'd check the oil level on the motor for starters.

Some members had said that the pre07 tundras also showed low like that. Then in 07+ they show higher. I too would be scared but it’s just programming of how it works. I would still get the TSB done.

I've checked the oil and it's full, I've set the appointment for tomorrow and will give an update. The reason I looked at the gauge to begin with was the engine seemed to have a slight hum to it. I haven't noticed that before but maybe I was looking for an issue when I saw the gauge.

1/4 mark is normal for oil pressure. It’s a dummy gauge with no units. Toyota updated the gauge with the TSB to show 1/2 mark. Actual oil pressure didn’t change, they just changed the needle position to be similar to 2nd gen.

Good to hear some of you having similar results and the tsb stating it will fix below 1/4 on the gauge.

Mine seems around half at cold start. My engine is warm now, but I'll check later when it has cooled off. Is it correct to assume the tsb won't calibrate the gauge? According to what the tsb says, it will correct below 1/4 at idle like mine does. I have the analog gauges if that matters.

Right, a Toyota tech I know mentioned this was the change. He’s probably wrong then. I don’t have this update since my gauge is at 1/4 when warmed up and cruising

It went down to 1/4 a couple seconds later. I'll post the results tomorrow after the tsb.

Went in to dealer today and did the TSB oil pressure gauge now stays in the center and fluctuates up and down when I’m on the gas much better than always staying at the one quarter mark

So you’re telling me the gauge sits at 1/2 point now even even warmed and at cruising speed?

same here. pointed it out to the service rep and he said it was "normal." Figure since mine is a '23 I will have to point it out to them each time I go in for service. Hopefully the TSB will clearly state 22-23 and they won't play the stupid card too many more times.

Warmed up in park and cruising at 70mph fixed with tsb. At 70mph it was around the 1/4 mark before the tsb.

Mine is typically at 1/4, however what does that mean? There are no measurements on those gauges. In other words, a quarter of what?

That is the problem with some of todays vehicle gauge clusters, they offer no fine details on your engine status. Some people have gone and purchased OBD2 gauges to display more real time data. I seen on this forum people are talking about their ScanGuage 2 scanner and how well it works. Now there is a newer version out. I am thinking of getting myself one but wonder if how much battery drain can occur if the truck sits awhile.

Looks to me like that gauge is functioning perfectly. Oil pressure should not be a static number.

The reason manufacturers are dumbing down gauge clusters so much is to coddle the consumer. Most people don't understand how much temps and pressures fluctuate and they assume something is wrong. It started with the addition of deadbands so say a temp gauge wouldn't show a higher water jacket temp unless it was 20° above "normal". By this point, you are getting close to doing damage. Soon, cars will only have a speedometer and dummy lights.

I ran my scangage II on my taco from day one - the truck sat for weeks on occasion and never once did it hesitate to start and the SG II was connected 100% of the time. If it draws any power while the vehicle is off it is minimal at best. I plan to use my SG II on the Tundra with it attached to the OBD 100% of the time.

I didn't expect the pressure gauge to read the same pressure at 70 mph and idle. It did the same before tsb at just below a quarter., idle and 70mph. One would assume that below a quarter would be low pressure.

The gauge is a dummy gauge so without units, 1/4 or even 1/2 mean nothing. There are thresholds for low oil pressure, you will get a low oil pressure message on the center screen.

I understand that but it is still annoying. Mine reads below 1/4 most of the time and 25 years of driving while scanning engine gauges in old vehicles is way more ingrained than this logic. I don't need the anxiety caused by reading a low gauge even if it is fake. I plan on getting it fixed next service.

I just got my truck back after engine replacement and it's sitting at a 1/8 at idle. Under throttle on highway it barley gets to half. The 2023 they had me in was constantly around half and above all the time. Hopefully I can get it back in for the tsb soon.

My '23 is almost always at halfway mark or higher. For the first 5 minutes or so after it's started each day, it gets at 3/4 or above under acceleration. Was concerned initially, but it's been doing that since day 1 (at 5k miles now), so I'm guessing it's operating as it should.
