Getting my bed finally done. When I got it, it already had one of the plastic drop in liners. It’s trashed

I’ll be having some friends help me remove my shell/cap and I’m gonna remove the plastic liner myself (versus get charged $120 for Line-X place to remove)

wondering from those who had it done, did you remove the bed rail yourself? Was there anything else you removed or did to prep for having Line-X done or just let shop handle the rest??

Removed the plastic liner, left the rails, and dropped my truck off. I paid them to deal with everything.

Where I had mine done, they removed everything that needed removing (rails, etc.), prepped and sprayed it and replaced all parts. Perfect job, I love it. I had the plastic liner also (truck came with it, I had no choice). I couldn't give it away so I eventually cut it up for scrap and took it to the recycling bin. It is a bit of a wrestling match to remove but I finally got it out.

Also, I did NOT have the tailgate coated with Line-X. Instead I bought a bed rug tailgate cover and installed that, it's a lot easier on my old knees when I climb in the bed + it is very comfortable to sit on with the tailgate open.

I've had it done by Line-X on 3 different trucks at 3 different locations. I've always let the shop handle the removal of caps, rails, etc.... I figure if they touch it they're responsible for it, so any peeling, damage, etc. lands in their lap. Very happy w/all 3 jobs!!

So, with that being said make sure when you get it back that your drain ports, etc. had been removed, the bed sprayed, then items re-installed. Best to talk w/them when you drop it off about the process they using as it pertains to those things, so you don't have any surprises when you get it back.

I know several folks that their bulkhead drain ports (which are covered w/a plastic plug) sprayed over. This is fine, except if you ever plan to use the drain port (for example w/a tonneau cover) you'll need to 'cut out' the line X material around the plug. Folks that have complained tried to drill through the plug w/line-x material attached to the plastic and the drill spun up the material instead of cutting through it. Those are the only issues I remember people talking about.

You'll enjoy it when it's done though....

Also, plan on keeping the shell off for several days so the chemical smell can dissipate as it finishes curing (it's strong)!

I have a couple of the foam floor mats that live in my truck bed. Use for everything from camping, tent floor and also, my knees when I gotta climb up there. Ha ha

yeah I’ve heard about the smell. Plan to keep shell off for as long as possible. Maybe a full week. I garage my truck so once I get the shell back on, I plan to have side door to my garage open also, will all windows open on my shell until I need to drive it. Then prob just lock shell but still keep windows open until smell gone!!

Yeah the garage will definitely be strong for a bit... I use those foam kneeling boards as well for climbing around and kneeling down on hard $hit; they are life savers.

As another side note, if you find that the 'texture' of the line-X gets to be bothersome cuz you're crawling around back there a lot (I do w/my '08 that has a shell and not so much on my '21 w/the tonneau), you can drop a 3/4" stall mat back there and the hard rubber will feel better on the bones (not as soft as the kneeing boards but better than metal).

Can’t help on the truck bed much, but have them spray the roof while you’re at it and enjoy never having to wash/wax it again :thumbsup:4F7EF2FA-05FC-4D54-A34E-9DA3CD0A3125.jpg

I wanna get my truck bed LineX’d this year as well. I do have some rust coming through the bed though that I have to deal with. Around the rear driver side bed mounting bolt.. I have to climb under and try to spray the hell out of it with oil.. I’ve heard these truck beds are prone to rust from underside in a few spots..

I really like this idea, but does it increase the temp inside the cab since it’s black?

Obviously black will absorb sun more than any other colour/ shade. My roof is vinyl wrapped satin black, I didn’t notice a difference in cab temps, but I also didn’t pay any attention to it before/ after.

If you're a DIY'er, using a gallon or 2 of Hurculiner is another option here. I rolled on this stuff on my mini truck and it's excellent. Touch ups with a spray can of the same stuff works great too. Just make sure you wear gloves, as it takes a week or more to come off your skin.

I got it done within a month or two of purchasing the truck in the late winter/early spring. So nothing to compare it against, but honestly I don’t think it makes much of a difference. I will get the windshield ceramic tinted in the coming weeks, that should help with the summer heat here in the south.

Thanks, just curious. My F-150’s Line-X bed gets scorching hot under the sun.
