Ordered a trans cooler and 12 quarts of amsoil tranny fluid. Is a filter worth it ? 45k on truck towed light twice no idea how it was treat previously. I got it at 28k miles a year ago. Mostly highway in the year I’ve had it.

I just did a drain (3,850ml) and fill at 92,500 miles. Like many on this board the tranny fluid wasn't burnt. A dark purple in color. I don't tow.

I don't think it necessary for you yet. Others will remind you tranny fluid is cheap and a tranny is expensive.

You can see what I had in my filter in that thread. I would say you could probably never replace it and not have a problem. Unless you know you can get those bolts out, I wouldn't risk it. Getting the broken bolt out was a headache.

    Too many, but not enough....
skip the filter, in normal circumstances I dont think it ever needs to be replaced, its just a strainer. drain and fill every 30-60k and your golden.

Sold not doing it then. Hopefully my fluid isn’t too terrible at 45k.

Good call. I D&R every 30-50K, at 170K now. I did change the filter recently because I had to drop the pan to change out a shift solenoid. I didn't cut it open, but with a flashlight, I didn't see ANY debris on it.

The way it's designed you'd actually have to cut it open to see any debris cuz it gets trapped in like a bag inside the plastic housing. Curious what the symptoms were that required you to change the solenoid how you knew which one that needed to be replaced.

The dash went full circus light and it it triggered a S4 shift solenoid high? resistance code. Then the truck went into limp mode w/o 5-6 gears. I was able to reset the code and manually cycle the solenoid via Techstream and it worked for a couple weeks, then it did it all over. Changed the solenoid and it's been solid for 6,000 miles.

Thanks for the info, I also have Techstream, what did you have to do to manually cycle the solenoid?
