3rd Gen Bed Cover On A 2nd Gen Tundra... Will It Fit?

Hi all, I came across a good deal on an Extang 2.0 Solid Fold bed cover. Extang lists 2 different part numbers for each generation, but other manufacturers list theirs as fitting 2007-2019 models. Does anybody know any reason why the 3rd gen Extang cover wouldn't work on my 2nd gen 5.5' bed?

 

Last time i sold my camper shell to a 3rd gen, even though it says same bed, when we put it on his truck, the shell seems like it was 3" too short

 

i got my bak mx4 off a 2017 so i don't see why it wouldn't fit as long as its for a crewmax. maybe the cargo track system i just removed mine.

 

My guess is that the top of the bed rails are longer on gen 3 by a little, but its just a guess.

Different bed cover designs overlap by varying amounts over the top of the bed rails, thus some may work on all years

Just an FYI to anyone else considering it, the 3rd gen cover is a near perfect fit on my 2nd gen.

For future reference the boxes are identical in size. What is different is the lip at the top of the tailgate on a 3rd gen. So any cover that does not go over the back edge of the tailgate is interchangeable between 2nd and 3rd gens. Mostly camper shells and hard fiberglass tonneau covers wont work as well as the plastic hard covers that go over the back lip of the tail gate. Most the bakflip, retrax, and rugged cover styles are interchangeable.

 

Does anyone know if the diamondback cover from a 2016 crewmax would fit on a 2010 crewmax?
