Im looking at buying a tundra with 44000 miles on it. The previous owner changed the oil except for one time he went 14500 miles without a change, no idea what driving conditions. This was with full synthetic oil. Would this be a red flag not to buy the truck? Also would this affect the longevity of the engine? Like if that gap in oil change didn’t do any damage is it gonna show in the future when it has some miles on it?

Probably completely inconsequential. It’s not like running without oil. Plus, synthetic is incredibly durable lubricant.
    That’s my 2cents…

So you think this type of truck could still last into the 200k mark like most tundras?

We bought a brand new 2007 Nissan Xterra, the wife's. She neglected to tell me that the second oil change was up. 10k miles later, I realized. Almost 170k on the clock now, and it still purrs. Back around 100k or so, Blackstone said the oil looked good. Never know what can or can't happen, but with modern machining and oil, I don't think I'd sweat it. Just my $.02 though

Get a mechanic to do a compression test on each cylinder. See if there’s any significant difference.
Yeah, I think you’re good for another couple of 100,000 miles with care and maintenance going forward.
Really, you never know. Was the previous owner a kid who raced around all the time or a mature individual who drove gently?

    Yes.

I dont like it. If it was a 100k mile truck, piss poor maintenance like that would be a deal killer.

But at 40k miles, if you stay on maintenance like you should from that point out, no question it’ll go 200k.

It was a lease, so I guess it could go either way, on one hand it wasn’t some 16 year old kid or someone towing and hauling with it, but on the other hand they might’ve been harder on the throttle knowing it wasn’t there truck

That’s great to hear man! That definitely makes me feel a little less anxious about that truck.

If you're worried about carbon build-up, run some engine flush on your next oil change.

200k? You should aim higher, like 300k miles. And no, there was no harm done with that one extended oil change interval.

We had a fleet truck miss an oil change interval by nearly 35K in severe duty conditions. Changed oil and it ran fine to well over 150k+. Synthetic oil seems to be more forgiving to negligence.
