We have a PUP that we go camping with, and I'm not looking to spend thousands of dollars on a tonneau/rack system that works with the OE folding cover. Thinking of using this with hitch mounted bike rack to take the kids 24" and 20" bikes camping with.

Pick a hitch that says it is compatible with hitch extenders, not all are. I think the ones designed for the heavier hitches with the 2 inch openigns are fine. The ones with the skinnier bar for a 1.5 inch hitch with an adapter for 2 inch hitches are usually a no go. It puts them so far out there is more stress on that bar than it can safely handle. Reduces the carrying capacity of the hitch.

My old popup had a Yakima rack on it. See if etrailer.com has any options.

I wound up picking it up. Seems to be pretty decent construction. Double tubed where it would go into the receiver. Our PUP is maybe 1700lbs. My concern now is with the extra hitch weight, will my 2" drop be too far down. I guess I'm just moving the bikes from the bed to the hitch shouldn't be too much worry.

I have a week off next week that I plan on repacking the bearings and I'll do some tests on.

They do, but more than I'm willing to spend on it for our 1 maybe 2 time a year trips that we do. Plus, I'm always leery of drilling holes through the roof after the fact with it.
