Jingling noise is me driving nuts!

I have an '06 4x4 SR5 Double Cab and I have a jingling noise coming from under what sounds like the front end. With spring here and the windows down it's super annoying. Sounds nearly equal in volume from driver or passenger side but maybe louder on the driver side. Sounds like tinny washers jingling. I've crawled under there and put my hands on all the heat shields and grabbed just about everything I can reach and nothing is loose. Could it be up near the fire wall or transmission area? Front suspension? Wondering if anyone else has had the same issue?

 

Jingling, like what it would sound like if a bolt was loose and washers were rattling around on it?

Is it always there, or only when you hit bumps, or any time the engine is running? If it's happening when stationary, does it happen when you're idle and when moving, or only when moving?

Noise still persists if you empty out the glovebox, overhead sunglass holder, entire center console?

Did you check your steering shaft seal?

Did you check your flex plate?

 

Check your sway bar links.


Drop your skid/splash plate and drive without it to see if it goes away.

Try applying a little brake pedal while driving to see it it goes away.

 

It's only over rough or bumpy terrain, which after this wither is all roads everywhere. It does kinda sound like the loose bolt and washers but only the washers. It's high pitched, tinny, almost like a pet bell. It's most definitely outside and underneath the truck. I stick my head out and it sounds like front of vehicle. Rode passenger recently and could hear it on that side. I'd like to put it up on shop stand then shake the building!

 

Have someone else drive your truck walking speeds bumpy road, walk next to it and see it you can better pinpoint it.

 

I would check for loose heat shields underneath and on the Cats. Good luck.

 

You can also try disconnecting your sway bar to see if it goes away.

Bad or loose end links may feel ok by hand but make noise.

Better yet, got a rubber mallet? Park, and take a rubber mallet to the framerails and various components to try to reproduce. I realize not everyone has a GoPro, but some guys on here have strapped to misc places to find noises.

 

I had this issue on another truck and it was the sway bar links. It’s the exact sound and conditions you describe. I recommend starting there. Shop that replaced them torqued them wrong and they instantly broke again, so make sure to DIY or use a reputable place.

 

Oddly, I had a noise like this in my Sequoia a few months ago, turns out it was the battery bracket. I had taken the battery out for some work and didn't tighten the bracket down enough.

It drove me nuts.

Tap your hub caps and see if they jingle. I just found out that's what it was on my 02
