Wondering if this is too good to be true.

    Vehicle is a 2012 Tundra DoubleCab SR5 (5.7)

Seller claims it has the following package:

    - Factory TRD Including TRD dual exhaust, TRD cold air intake, TRD bilstein, 3” leveling kit, leather heated seats, upgraded audio

I can’t find anything that have leather as an option on the SR5s. The rest of the truck seems clean enough, and the price is par for the course for similar ($15k CDN, 325k km), just smells fishy and I have no clue about the trim packages in 2012.

I downloaded the brochure for the year and can’t find the info required but maybe someone here has a better idea? Also, they’ve provided the following maintenance/items replaced which seem fishy or completely extensive:

The maintained/changed items are as listed (within last 60k km):
    - new power steering rack
    - new lower control arms
    - new upper control arms
    - new sway bar links & bushings
    - new inner/outer tie rods
    - new axle shafts
    - new bilstein 5100s
    - new driveshaft u joints
    - NGK iridium plugs
    - fender flares
    - new rubber

Thanks for the help, looking to jump into the Tundra pool here soon.

I do believe for that year, there was a restructuring on what options came with what grades. For example the Rock Warrior was added and the SR package among other packages. I know my 07 SR5 package options was strewn across 3 or 4 different packages. Leather seat option, may have been swapped from a Limited or gone down the path of reupholstery with Katskin or some other brand. The TRD bits are aftermarket, they don't come included only the bilstein shocks and struts, unless the original owner requested them at the moment, and paid a premium for them, or were dealer installed features and charged a premium for them. Hope this helps some. Get a mechanic and have it checked out.

Edit: You can look up the vin on the Toyota owners site and check out maintenance and if these options were installed by the dealer, or owner. Some stuff has changed from what I remember, but should give you a good idea on what's going on.

Totally did not know about the Toyota owners site, which is hilarious since I already own a Toyota.

It seems like 2012 was kind of an all over the place year for models/packages. Not sure what I feel about all the repairs/upgrades and may seek another model that passes the smell test a bit more.

Looking at that list of parts I'd hazard a guess that someone liked bashing it off road and/or hauling weight on a regular basis, if the underside doesn't look rock bashed and the bed is not beat to hell I'd be thinking that it's a bonus having all those new steering/suspension parts.

My 2wd 2013 with 1/4 million miles had knackered shocks when I bought it and it only had 80k miles at the time. The rest of the steering gear is still tight but it hasn't had Canadian weather to contend with. Does Canada have an annual roadworthy test? I know in the UK they are fairly strict with that kind of gear being in good order...

I wish we had annual roadworthy tests, but unfortunately we’d probably lose 40% of the vehicles on the road…

Owner claims to be the 2nd owner, and I’ve discovered that the Toyota lookup only applies to US Toyotas, which is kind of annoying.

Good info all around. There’s a 2007 Limited Crewmax with 198k miles that just popped up nearby for the same price that may alleviate some concerns. Older for sure, and has the typical driver’s seat wear, but may be better than Frankentruck.

Thanks for all the help, it would be useful to be closer than 700mi from these trucks so I could actually inspect them!

Or he just liked to maintain his vehicle. 60k is about 4 years average driving, so i wouldn't be surprised. I did front suspension replacement within a year when i bought my truck with 80k miles, even though it was all good. So if vehicle history is clean, only way to find out if there's something else is to inspect it yourself IMHO

Personally speaking, I’d be very wary about buying any vehicle with 200k miles on the clock without inspecting it first, be that myself or an independent third party if it’s that far away.
It might be a Tundra and last a lifetime for someone who keeps it garaged and only puts 10k miles a year on it but a lot of these 2nd gens are used by contractors like myself because they are so reliable and can be worked hard. Mine has served me well and does over 40k a year on average but it has recently had a reconditioned tranny and the cats are just about done, and according to my tranny man the 4.6l has a longer lasting tranny than the 5.7l…
Because the book value on it is junk it is worth my running it into the ground but I won’t be surprised to have a fairly constant stream of parts requirements from now on until I blow the engine. It just isn’t worth my blowing huge amounts on a newer one and trashing the book value in three years flat!
