08 5.7 tundra. I bought the vehichle with high mileage, but has been treated amazingly. I have been chasing a problem for the last few months. And I might have stumbled upon the answer. What I'm looking for, is when you change out the oil filter, and the metal tube is not on the cap(I didn't know it was supposed to have one). Does the metal tube on the cap fit around a tube up inside the housing?. I ask becausei have no clue if there is a intake tube inside the housing, or if the one from the cap is stuck up in there.. I believe that since I didn't have the cap tube, that's why my filter looked collapsed, and is messing with my vvt solenoids and mabe some things.

Yep there's a metal tube and a spring that fits inside the filter and sometimes people unknowingly throw it away. This causes the filter to collapse and impedes oil flow.
