I’m trying to figure out what to use to install the front diff drivers side seal. I have a seal and race driver kit, but this seal has a dust lip which I think will get damaged. What have y’all been using to install the seal?

Just be careful with the seal driver, set it even on the lip and tap it in. Also make sure to check installed depth, there isn't a stop for the seal (yes, so stupid)

Used an appropriately sized schedule 40 PVC pipe to drive the seal in on my 2000. Agree with knowing the depth to stop at and not pushing it in to far

Thanks, I’m going to measure the depth of my existing seal before I remove and try to match.

I think they do this so you can seat the seal deeper into the differential if you get a groove worn on the CV shaft. Yeah I agree though, it is dumb, it leaves a lot of guess work if you didn't measure before tearing into it.
