Finally got the new Tundra in, and old one gone:

Have major plans on an ever more majorly slow timeline. Has to be a work truck AND family remote camping rig.

Needs lots of work, but first things first will be addressing those chrome wheels. Going to purchase some take-offs of the exact same wheels the delivery guy has.

    Cheers.

Plans, more or less, as of now:

    Wheels

    2CD65001-62D0-4482-9CC5-7D9E1CE482D2.jpg
    For Cheap^
    OR

    3BEB354F-8A8E-4190-8023-5D66B838AFD5.jpg
    For $$$$

-Rain visors (in channel, when back in stock)

    -Floor liners (done)

-Seat covers (wool front, deciding rear)

    -Under rear seat storage

    -Center seat compartment safe

    -Fog lights (recommendations?)

-Intermittent wipers (if I miss them)

    -265/70-18 Falken Wildpeak AT3W tires
(Or whatever 3PMSF tire in that size)

-TRD OR or Sport take-off shocks

    -[sway bars cancelled. No need]

-46 gallon tank upgrade (38 OEM if cheap/used?)

-Sliders (whenever have time to weld up)

-Headlights (likely Morimoto, hate the triple light look, like the quality/output)

-Added: HU for sure, maybe speakers.

    Fix:

-Tailgate (probably need a new one)

    -tail light (cracked/hole/driver side)

    Any recommendations welcome. Thanks! :)

    Looks familiar...

I'd get bigger tires. 295/70 or 285/75 will fit on the stock rims. Forget the big tank... too many $$$, and too likely to get damaged offroad. If you really need the range, bring cans... that's just my approach.

What's the camping setup? What's the work setup?

Eh, my ‘93 Pickup and ‘99 4Runner were amazing off road. This truck needs to haul metal and wood during the week and the family and a topper on time off.

According to my GPS I’m about the same percentage off on the Speedo/odo as a 265/70-18 will correct it, so it should be dead on accurate, or at least as close as possible. With Tacomas you can go up a full inch in height to correct the odo, apparently the Tundra is fine with a half inch adjustment.

The only reason I wanted a 2016-2017 Tundra was for the 38 gallon tank…
Ended up finding a good deal on an SR, a range of 300 miles or less is okay, but we do some pretty long and remote drives. We shall see if I can find a larger tank or not, but cans are always with us either way on long trips. Especially if we have the bikes.

Short term vs. long term I’m deciding between a topper or full flatbed but the hope (if metal prices would come down and I could get some time off) is to build a full flatbed/camper setup that can easily convert from work to play.

I’m a welder/metal fabricator but with new jobs/moving over the next two years lined up we may not find much time for that big of a project for a bit. Then will come building a house if all works out well and we can grab some land so who knows…

    We shall see!

I’ve decided to cancel the F/R Sway bars for now, as I’ve been towing about 3500-4500 lbs and see no need. As the load increases I will either stand by it or change my mind, but even empty on the highway I’m happy with it.

Definitely adding speakers to the list… I’ve only ever upgraded speakers once. I’m not picky. But man are these ones horrible sounding ha.

Towing about 4,500 lbs about 350 miles tomorrow. Will keep ironing out wants/needs.

Averaging 15mpg so far when not towing.

Still want some lighter wheels/quality tires ASAP if anyone is selling near SD.

If you have the stock shocks, an upgrade there would improve stability and handling. I'm very happy with mine (handles great with no swaybars), but a lower budget option would be Bilstein 5100s or similar Eibach.

Oh... and you might want to play with your radio controls before you buy new speakers.

The stock shocks are still there, 7 years old and going strong. I’ll grab some pull-off TRD shocks whenever I see someone selling and get around to it. Cheap and good ride. I’ve never liked 5100s in the past.

I changed the basic audio controls around but still looking for some better quality if anyone had any speaker suggestions. I know they don’t to a lot without a HU but I’m fine with the minimal upgrade. We shall see how long it takes to get around to it

I put tech12v hertz center speaker and Kenwood excelon side dash speaker in and I like them. Good clarity with stock head unit. Still on the hunt for door speakers.
Got the kenwoods vs hertz for the side dash due to them being out of stock for a while, but I’m happy with them

Thanks for the recommendations. I’m sure what’s best and what’s in stock aren’t always the same thing right now so thanks for the heads up on that as well. It’s crazy how many speakers are in vehicles now ha. My old Pickup had two, total.
