The battery in my 2017 5.7 Crew Max SR5 4x4 is dead. And my key fob will not open the doors.

Should I replace the battery with a Toyota battery? Or any branded battery?

Will installing a new battery fix the dead key fob problem?

    Thank you so much!

If everything is dead the most obvious cause is a dead battery. Your key fob can send open commands until hell freezes over and the truck won’t know because the receiver has no power to pick up the signal, and the power door locks don’t have power to operate.

Frankly the stock Toyota batteries are nothing to write home about, but they’re serviceable. If I were buying a battery and intended to keep the truck longer term I would invest in an absorbed glass mat battery (AGM), and install the largest one that could fit on the battery tray. I did exactly that over 10 years ago, and picked up an additional 200 or so cold cranking amps. That battery is still going strong over a decade later.

Optima, Interstate, and Odyssey all offer AGM batteries. The Odyssey are about as good as it’s possible to make a battery, and are priced accordingly.

A new battery should solve your key fob issue, and you might as well put in a new 2032 in your key fob too.

Speaking of a dead battery, this one gave up the ghost in the Sequoia. Lasted longer than the one that was in my 2016 when it was new.
