I'm looking to get another Tundra before the end of 2023 or early next year.

I hope Toyota would be able address issues like wind noise, window seal gap, squeaky Limited suspension (non-TRD). creaking interior door panel, among others.

Do you think we'll see minor design enhancements in 2024 which results in higher build quality?

No as well. Seems certain trim levels have certain problems which would not be a cause for upgrades.

I have a 1794 and have zero of the issues you listed.

I think you’ll see incremental and more consistent build quality increases (my 22 is free and clear of the problems you described btw) but no changes.

toyota has a slow refinement process. its slow but they do refine a model over the course of 7 yrs (typical model lifespan, some are shorter and some are longer).

by the time the 2nd gen was ending 2018+ they had pretty much perfected the 2nd gen and all they could do was add more tech or features as standard to get people to buy it or those that wanted a bullet proof truck.

but typical of toyota the last model year of an older gen may have more standard features than a new gen that they de-content then slowly add features back in.

this occured with my 4runner. 2009 had low quality of life features but by 2014 they had added little stuff like led tail lights and removed the rear reflectors in the bumper. then they added AA/Carplay later on down the road, led lights, changed the tail lights again, PTS as standard, etc.

if you compare the slight refreshes on a 5th gen 4runner, you can see the changes if you look for them, 2009, 2014, 2019, 2021

I concur with above seems to be lack of consistency in quality among models more than variance of timeframe produced when get into later 22s and 23s. Assume they maybe some trim parts for some higher models from a different vendor that do not meet spec. My loaded 22 SR5 has had no noise or fit issues in 7 months.

On the first page of the Gen 3 feed there are 15 topics. 1 deals with problems or issues. Most are mods, pricing, pics and stuff like that. At the same time, the first page feed on the current get F150 has 15 topics too. 12 of them are about problems. I'm not saying it's perfect in Gen 3 world but Toyotas approach to dealing with problems is miles ahead of everyone else's.

I traded in a 22 Tundra 1794 for a 23 TRD Pro. The 22 had some of the issues discussed (Wind noise, creaky seats, some fitment issues). My 23 has none of the same issues. I am extremely happy I upgraded and it seems, at least in my case Toyota has addressed some of these issues.

I too have a 23' with no issues so far other than an occasional screen that asks if I want to change my seat position. Zero rattles, squeaks or wind noise.

well after 1600 miles only have a few minor issues (from my perspective)

    1. feels like the rear bottoms out on normal setting
    2. engine lags from a stop in normal/comfort mode (not in sport/sport+)
    3. head unit randomly goes quiet for 1 second during songs on AA/spotify
    4. going to ask them to turn off key fob tailgate release

My 23 Platinum has the center armrest rattle noise. Dealership replaced the lid and it doesn't rattle anymore.

I really don't think there is any difference between the two lids but more of how it was installed at the factory.

My 22 has fuel gauge issues. After I fill up the tank and use up a quarter tank it resets back to completely full. Other than that it’s good.
Once in a while CarPlay loses connection, but not a big deal

Really all these are minor issues that I'm sure Toyota will fix via replacement parts or recalls or TSBs.

But moving forward, it would be nice if they can somehow add in some front recovery hooks.

I wish they. Plus do a software fix so that the auto start doesn’t turn off when you unlock the door

I just took a 120 mile round trip to Waxahachie today from Allen. I am averaging 16.1 on mostly highway. The MPG numbers are so far off. Wished they just put them tow hooks back on and just put 14 city 18 highway on the truck.

1300. Took it pretty easy for the break in. Had an oil change at 1k. All stock except for the TRD air filters.

    Lots of stuff!
How about the mirror camera/covers flying off!

My September 2022 build has been plagued with the dreaded “North pointing up after restart” nav issue. I thought about taking it back and getting a Pro, but my wife smacked me and said no! ;)

Otherwise ours has been trouble free.

Verify its not only North up when following directions on waze or Google maps. Mine is North up when I am actively navigating in waze. Others have said the same thing.

I use apple CarPlay and it is always North up. I tried the suggested remedies but it never stays north up in the Toyota nav. But not a big deal to hit the north up button if I use that screen.

It certainly isn’t enough to send the truck to the crusher :)

16,000 miles on my '22 SR5 with none of the major issues anyone else is having. I stay pretty quiet on forums, but I dont understand the MPG issues others are having either. My truck is stock except running boards and a soft tonneau cover, and i regularly get 21 MPG with 80/20 highway/city mix back and forth from work.

Honestly this is the nicest vehicle ive had, and just remember that the loudest people will be the ones with issues. There are so many more people quietly enjoying their vehicles! Also, stay away from FB, unless you are in a 'People who actually like their Tundra' group haha.

You can't go wrong with this vehicle, and the worst experience you might have with it is dependent on your dealer.

    Happy shopping!

I feel lucky to have found an in-transit Limited with all the options below for $61,492. This price is below the current Toyota website pricing of $64,942.

The truck has an ETA of end of May.

    2023 Tundra Limited 4x4 CrewMax 5.5-Ft. Bed
    Engine: i-FORCE V6
    EXTERIOR: Magnetic Gray Metallic
    INTERIOR Black SofTex

    JBL Premium Audio
    Limited Premium Package
    Limited Power Package
    PVM + BSM Outer Mirrors
    TRD Off-Road Package
    TRD Front Skid Plate
    Heated Leather Steering Wheel
    All-Weather Floor Liner Package
    BedStep
    Spray-On Bedliner
    Alloy Wheel Locks

It's my 2nd 3rd gen. This time I'm getting ALL the options I want (and more 'cause they won't take off the bedliner and floor liner from the buildsheet). Pls wish me luck on my re-do on the 2023 Tundra.

Same for me albeit only 6.5k miles. We SR5 owners are pretty quiet on this forum as well as people was who prefer stock. Sometimes simpler is better.

I’d agree. I’m right at 10,000 miles and I’ve tracked my MPG for every fill up. MPG has been creeping up lately. Had been stuck around 17.6 (manually calculated) and now I’m closer to 18.5. I’m 50/50 hwy vs city with stock Limited TRD OR and I’ve got a bit of a heavy foot. I’ve had zero issues with the truck other than a piece of trim that had a broken tab that the dealer fixed.

Station wagon denial. First we got hatchbacks until they weren't cool either. Then we got minivans. Then we were innundated with SUVs. Then, the truck manufacturers figured out SUVs had turned into family station wagons, so truck mfgrs started targeting the same moms and dads. Now, 4x4 truck owners are talking about wind noise, while the manufacturers pile 10's of thousands of dollars of useless crap on these machines that they force us to buy as standard equipment. How about a goddam skid plate? Is it just me? I live on a farm. I've driven Toyota trucks for 40yrs. We should be able to get an 8 ft bed, so you can carry everything from dirt bikes to lumber with the tailgate up. Otherwise, why is there a tailgate? You only need to close it to keep things in? It shouldn't keep you from putting things in, in the first place. You can only get the ultra rare 8ft bed if the back seat is too small for a person with legs. I traded my 2016 dbl cab for a 2024 crewmax. Now my back seat is big enough for three 600lb sumo wrestlers. I can't see over the hood, which has been so puffed up with masculine lienes that it has empty space under the hood where my line of sight should be on the road, trail or the next vehicle I'm pulling up to when im parking. The shape of that beefy hood makes an ideal solar reflector that is totally blinding when i drive in the afternoon. No matter where i put my head the focus of the glare follows me. I paid thousands to have everything operate at the push of a button. Problem is, I don't want to push any of those buttons. Especially if they require a monthly subscription. I don't want to roll my windows down from the other side of town using my phone. I want a skid plate. I can dim my own lights. If you can skip the large touch screen, I can keep my eyes on the road and hands up on the wheel. That means you can skip the lane tracking assist, too. After all, i dont need a super expensive electronic monitor to prevent my off road vehicle from ever going off the road. I can put on a pair of gloves for 10 bucks instead of paying hundreds for a heated steering wheel, too. C'mon man. It's a TRUCK. Yet, there are no tow points AT ALL. The front "bumper" is made of such thin plastic it will be destroyed if I hit a large bird. Worse yet, a large bird could literally wipe out my radar or the parking assist sensors I desparately need because the hoods too big to see over. There was a time when I worshipped Toyota trucks because of their utility, durability, simplicity and trail worthiness. I pulled a snow plow out of the ditch in my 4cyl 1987 truck, and once I even pushed a tow truck out that was stuck without denting my stock bumper! My new 2024 doesn't even have mud flaps, let alone a bumper. There is still zero side visibility when turning at night. The LED headlights did not solve that problem. You could easily turn into a boulder or into a creek in the dark without auxiliary illumination. I did have to pay for the blind spot indicator lights that came on my truck but there shouldn't be blind spots anyway. The engineers should understand how valuable visibility is and its free. We just need to see over the solar reflector/hood, to the left and right when we turn and just skip the radar. I spent $60000 on what was essentially a base model V6 Tundra and it will take another $8000 worth of bumpers, tow hooks, lights and mud flaps just to prevent it from being completely destroyed if I do any of the things Toyota shows in their commercials. Trust me, station wagons weren't so dumb. I wish all the pansy ass spoiled lacrosse dads would give them a second chance and leave my dependable useful 4x4 trucks alone. By the way, our old station wagon had zero wind noise and pretty good towing capacity.

You are exactly right. I bought the wrong truck. It was wrong to hold that last bit of expectation after 40yrs of brand loyalty. At least F250 has lockouts but the worst part is that they're all doing it. Ford, Dodge, Chevy... all want to sell us everything they can possibly pile on the vehicles or get the government to require, like tire pressure monitors. An 8ft passenger compartment with a 5.5ft bed is a station wagon. Chip shortage? Why do i need chips to operate my tailgate? Show me the right truck. I'm being serious. That's my real question. I've driven most of them.
