I have a 2016 tundra without a tow/haul button. Does anyone recommend a safe way to tow in one of the 6 speeds on my transmission? Is 6th gear like an overdrive?

I recommend using S mode, and using S4 for anything below 55-60. S5 on flat highways over 60. I’d pretty much count on not really using 6th.

How heavy are you towing? If we’re talking less than 2k or 3k pounds, then just drive your truck like you normally do. Once you get around 3k or more, use S4 to tow like previously mentioned. S4 keeps the torque converter in lock up mode to keep transmission temps down. The Tow haul button only changes the throttle mapping and shift points to make the truck more responsive. You can control both with your accelerator pedal, just won’t be as snappy.

I have the tow/haul button and when towing up to 5000 lbs I tried it once, I found it hangs too long at high rpm before down shifting. I will no longer use it unless I go above that weight.
