I was wanting to get the TRD Sport package and the dealership said its not possible to add it after, said its only when they’re building it. Is this true? Seems like all the stuff with the package could be easily added at the dealership.

That is not how Toyota works. This is a port add on, not a dealer add on.

One thing I forgot to add was they said they could do the off-road package for me. Just confusing why they can do one but not the other.

Just throw some ugly black wheels on it, find a leather steering wheel cover on eBay, a few more misc parts and your good to go!

With most Toyota packages, if you price it out separately with Toyota parts, it will be way cheaper to get the package to begin with. Aftermarket parts may be cheaper on this particular package. What they don’t show you is the color matching grill and color matching rear bumper covers are also part of the TRD sport package. So if you follow the package details from your pic and did the work after your purchase, you would have black wheels, lowered suspension, leather steering wheel but with chrome everywhere. Depends on your taste I guess. I’m not a chrome fan. Also, there is no way they could do an off road package for you after the fact. They would have to add a locking rear differential and other electronic off road things like crawl control etc. Sounds like you need to do some more research.

Yeah and with it being a 4x2 it doesn’t make any sense to get the off-road package. I was thinking sport package because its staying on the road LOL. This is my first Toyota and my first truck so this is all a learning experience.

I guess I can get all those TRD Sport parts one piece at a time. Or just say screw it if it gets too difficult, I might call different dealerships to see if I get the same answer.

Not trying to complain but I thought someone said you can’t “build” a Tundra you have to wait for allocated trucks and then see if they have one in the area that matches? So how can someone get that package? Oh well, I’ll see what I can do.

Thanks again for everyone’s helpful replies on this matter!

OK, so I called Toyota of Portland and spoke with Zack in the parts department, who was very nice and spent the time looking up my Vin, and he confirmed that the Trd sport package isn’t something that can even work with my Vin. He did find me the shifter knob and rims and other universal parts but he said the sport suspension won’t work with my Vin.

    I guess that solves it!

TBH, aftermarket suspension might out-perform OEM stuff, "might"
Of course, price and preference YMMV....

The common thing I keep hearing is “drive your truck a year and then see what you want to do with it”. That, along with Zack saying that it typically takes a year or so for parts to become available, means I need to just enjoy my new Tundra and chill the hell out about wanting to customize it. :)

That's also true. Driving it a while would give you more time to "enjoy" and know what exactly you like/don't like and what changes you would want.
I kinda rushed into the mods when I first got my 21, and I even still have parts that I got from two Black Friday's ago sitting in the garage, that will get installed this summer.
But yea, driving it two years does give me the vision of how I like it to be, and time to research how to make that happen/not happen.
Enjoy the ride for now, I would even say unless the stock tires are weighing down on the MPG, leave it for now, it is not goona kill you not changing out first day of ownership of the truck.

Now, if you have OCD about it then..... disregard what I just said. Dive in, and dive in deep.

Just remember, if you like a particular trim level on a vehicle, buy that particular trim level when you purchase the vehicle. Even if you were able to get every single part and change the truck to a different trim level, at the end of the day, the truck is still the original trim level and you wasted money for no good reason when you could have bought it with the trim level you wanted in the first place..

Yeah, not a lot of Sport trim levels out there. Not waiting around for one to be allocated. I get what you’re saying though.
