Wheel bearing install

Hello,

very sorry to ask a silly question but I just want to prepare myself for any issues down the line. I replaced my wheel bearing/hub assembly. The CV axle seal was still good so no need to replace that. After putting everything back on I see that the very thin metal spring that gives the seal its shape did not go back in properly and causing small friction. Is this a big concern ? The axle is still sealed to the spindle. I really don’t feel like talking the assembly off again.

 

It compromises the seal. I'd remove and replace with a new seal.

Were you having trouble with the seal seating right?

 

Nope. I did check the seal when I took the old one off and everything was prefect. I put the new one on and rotated the hub to make sure everything was good. I heard a faint sound of something rubbing and it was that little metal rubber band like I circled in the picture. Everything bolted up fine.

 

I believe it's actually a spring.
