This may have been discussed somewhere before, but what is the difference between driving in D vs. S6?

AI-SHIFT operates in D, does not in S mode.

OK, AI-SHIFT is a new one for me. What's that? And how does it benefit me?

All you would ever wanna know, but in essence, the transmission adjusts how the truck drives in response to the driver's actions.

I don’t think ive ever used S mode without a trailer or big load.

holy smokes the truck drives SO much better in S 6. The trans is definitely not thinking, but shifts much cleaner and at the correct rpms

    This.

I sometimes get a little shudder on the 1-2 shift that completely disappears in S Mode (it’s the driveline going slack then re-engaging between gears, not a transmission issue; the AI prolongs and softens the 1-2 shift giving a small bump feeling on occasion). I drive like an old man in 1st gear then usually give a little (or a lot) more gas in second so the AI shifting hates me sometimes.

It can sometimes net you a little better mileage to stay in D. And it saves you from having to click from S3 to S6 every time you put it in gear.

I wonder if NAVI AI shift is in all or certain model Tundras, dont really see if it would make driving enjoyable. One thing i find annoying is, when i leave in cruise with some light trailer load, it sometimes keeps downshifting unnecessarily & stays longer in lower gears before upshifting, whereas same cruise drive in S mode goes really with smooth shifts.
