i usually keep the USB cable plugged into USB outlet in deep console where is has one USB2.0 and one C-plug. Yesterday while driving along Joshua NP, I reached out to cable to plug into phone and it was super hot. I could feel my fingers got blisters. I pulled off the road and un-plugged the cable and it was super hot on the other end where it goes in plug as well. Couple of hours later I plugged in brand new cable and same issue.

Any one else faced this issue, this is fire haz and definitely my kid would have screamed if he touched the wire.

I always have a USB-C Lightning cable plugged into the center console. Never had it get hot even while driving with it plugged into my phone. Sounds like it's a electrical short.

Have you tried charging a different phone with the outlet in question and see if it does the same?

There should be no current flowing through a USB cable only attached at one end. High current is what is heating the cables up. If the same thing happened to a different cable, you need to have that USB port replaced under warranty. And don't plug anything else into it.

Same. Always have one connected. Never even felt warm.
