What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Looks good. None of the restore products lasted more than a week or two and left them worse than before. Paint. That’s what fixed mine.

 

Washed both vehicles today. Sometimes I'm amazed at how well this 21 year old truck cleans up. I still wish I knew who took care of it the first 14 years.

Those are supposed to be "drains" for the wall. Never seen any water come out. That retaining wall was built in 2021 by a couple of country Bubbas and already has a massive crack in it. Previous owners paid to have it done. I'm not happy about it.

Dunno, it came to me that way. BTW, you may be wrong...summer in MD typically starts ~ mid-March (following ~ 3 weeks of spring) continuing until ~ mid-October. Hot AF and humid the whole time.

 

None taken but that's something similar to what we would put in a block wall as part of a french drain on backside of wall.
If those are not escape channels related to a french drain then yea, country bumkin bubba did a disservice to all brick laying Bubba's

 

Black Magic or Ultimate Black or whatever did jackshit for me. I was super disappointed. Griot's far exceeded my expectation which is why I'm always shamelessly plugging it on here. I probably made it about 12 months on mine before I started to see a fade happening again for my bedrails. I need to re-do them again. The stuff legit works, but as you noticed, it helps to realy dig into it first. Please tag me in future follow-up photos. And if you only did one coat, I've noticed doing a follow-up coat a few days later seems to really set the color.

I'm feeling pretty triggered myself. Why in the hell would someone do that?

How the hell is water supposed to come out? It looks like they just bricked over the hole. If it were me, I'd knock that shit out and drop a proper grate in there. Then it would look normal and probably function normal too.

 

I don't get it. What's triggering about it?

 

Shifty - SAT only gets about half as much rain as we get in SC and GA. Their ground is either limestone or calichi. It probably works fine depending on his geology and hydrology.

 

Typically weeps/drains are at the bottom 1/5th of the wall, or at the base. Water flows downhill, it just happens, and water buildup on the back side of a wall will eventually compromise the wall. Unless the installer coats the back side with tar or other sealant, but generally speaking it's just bad news.

But my first big beef is, how is it supposed to drain if they mortared those three bricks in? I'ts not a drain if it's plugging the wall.

My 2nd big beef is, why the hell did they install them vertically when it's so glaringly obvious? Thy could've done you better, making it look more natural and nice, and actually offering a drain opening, by halving one brick and throwing a brick across both halves like ...

Yeah but FGV (it's his wall) is in TYS, not SAT. Basically gets the same rainfall each year as us, roundabout.

4lo to the rescue. Been picking up sticks at grandmas for a couple years, and every trip i tell the guy that runs the tractor for the park to take the pile of sticks to wherever he takes em. He tells me he will, and never touches em. So today i wrapped em with a rope, and drug em out to the road. Easily 1000 lbs. some 8" logs as skis, about 4' tall of branches. Tundra + lady tires didnt rut the yard, 4x4 didnt lose traction, and 4 lo let me drag it just above idle. I left em enough on the road that the tractor guy is gonna have to do something about em now.

Now install the other 3 Skid Row skid plates by yourself. Get you a milk crate and a jack. I did all 4 by myself when they we brand new and it was a PITA!

The transmission plate is the largest and heaviest and the hardest to install. Front is second on heaviness but probably 2nd to least difficult. Oil skid is lightest, smallest and easiest. Transfer case skid is pretty bulky but not too heavy, but takes some time to install

I found the easy button for removing the top nut on the rear shocks.



...just wait until it rusts away completely and falls off on the road somewhere.
The same thing happened about a year and half ago on the rear driver side. Luckily I had Eibach pro truck shocks ready to go for such an occasion. Ok, so I was planning on replacing these old KYB shocks (came with the truck when I bought it in '17) but like a lot of you, I buy parts and they accumulate in my garage until I have time to work on the truck (never) or shit like this happens and I take 2 hours off work to get it done when I don't have little ones around sucking away all my time and energy.

Anyone ever seen a gooseneck hitch installed on a 1st gen? I'm afraid of what a PO might have been towing with my truck honestly. Hopefully it was just a Scamp 5th wheel or something along those lines. I've been spraying the ball with penetrating lube trying to get it unstuck, so far unsuccessfully. I need to pound on it from underneath with a BFH.

I'd say you're not done yet, perhaps finished, but still looks thirsty to me. When I used Griots on mine, it lasted over a year.
That said - looks good, vast improvement.
