    Interesting.

I’m not a “gun person” - but yeah - I’m seriously going to think about one of these. I have no need/interest in owning an AR for example - but something about a lever action just pulls me towards them.

I can really see the appeal in one of these - size and weight wise working around down on the farm. Small enough to keep with me on the UTV or carry when walking in the woods.

I kinda miss having guns around - grew up in the country and always had guns. When I moved to the city - had no need and more of a hassle. Once I got married - wife just doesn’t like guns much so I never pushed the issue. Again - I’m no hunter and the few guns I owned I just left in the old man’s care. When he passed - I told mom to hold them - it made her feel secure and in a way like dad was still around so I was fine with it (besides wife still not a fan and I didn’t want to sell them). When mom passed my sister “nicely” offered to hold them for me - as well as the few of dads that were gifted to me (he had like 7 or 8 - I just asked for 2 and told her she could have the others - all I wanted was the old .22 revolver we used to coon hunt with and the Browning that was originally my great grandfathers pheasant gun). Of course 6 months later when I tell her I’ve got a gun safe and will just store at the farm - get the run around and excuses and don’t hear from her again. Sucks in a way because there is some sentimental value to them - but I’ve moved on. The value of what she took is minimal and if family is worth less than a grand to you - well I’m better off not hearing from you again. Stuff can be replaced easily - even if it’s not the “exact” gun - plenty of the same models out there to buy and hold on to if I feel the need.

Miss going to gun shows with the old man and just scouting for deals and haggling. Probably going to start doing it again occasionally and start picking up a few pieces to play around with. This one though just looks cool and seems like something that would be fun to have around with some practical use out in the country.

Looks cool…wonder how long before the ATF turns this into an NFA item by redesignating it as an SBR

I hope they make it in either stainless all-weather or the black X model.

Check the build link in my signature.
It’s probably an “assault weapon” now here in WA.

That thing is cool. First rifle i ever bought was a lever gun. Because nothing is More American than a lever rifle. Kickin myself for not buying a .357 mag carbine instead of a 30-30. Amazing what inflation and marlin going bankrupt has done to the price of a henry dear lord

My first rifle was a Marlin 30.30. I was reloading rounds for it when I was twelve. My dad taught me. Love a lever. Winchester levers sucked back then. Cheap stamped steel internals. 1967.

I read through that bill, its California's gun ban on steroids. Washington pretty much banned all "scary" features. It escapes them this country fought the world's largest war with M1's. I don't see this bill, in its entirety, surviving since it bans by name the country's most commonly owned rifle (Heller 2008).

I was being facetious. But even at that it would be a novelty that would likely sell well.

Same. As you say, novelty guns are a thing for a reason. They are odd enough to be interesting and somebody will buy them. IMO the Mare's Leg in general fits that description regardless of caliber.

Don't ever shoot a nice one, then. I felt much the same as you, until I shot my buddy's tricked out rifle. They've come a long way since their original development in the 1950s.

I have no doubt they have.

My lack of interest is just simply no real use around the farm. As a shooter - I’m sure they are enjoyable. But just not something I need at the moment. Give me a year and once I’ve acquired a few “wants” I’m sure I’ll change my tune and be in the market for one “just because”.

Ditto picking up a 1911 - it’s the only thing the old man mentioned wanting as he went through chemo I never picked up for him. By the time I was ready - he was in no position to use one and I just thought it would be mean to give him something that just reminded him how frail he had gotten - that and the knowledge my sibling would likely have her hands on it the moment no one was watching. I have no good reason to buy one now - but I want one out of sentimental reasons remembering our talks and his describing exactly what he was gonna get if he ever got the chance. I miss those talks - acting like a couple of pre teen kids talking about all the shit we would buy when we had the chance trying to keep spirits up and from thinking about the misery of sitting through weekly chemo sessions.
