Has anyone experienced issues with the back part of their backseat melting? I just got my truck in November, but live in northern Michigan, and I have not had a chance to have the back window down all the way until just now. Now noticed the back of the seats melted!?

I live in Nevada. Just stone's throw away from Death Valley. I've had my truck since Dec. of 21 so it's seen a desert summer. Interior cab temps here get north of 185-190 degrees during the dead heat of summer.

I've never seen any of that interior back "carpeting" melt like that. I'm willing to put money on what happened was either 1) a QA miss during assembly or 2) maybe a faulty defroster if that portion of the seat is in direct contact with back glass. I'd bet #1 though.

Hybrid? Is the cooling air intake for the battery on hybrid Tundras anywhere in that area, similar to Camry’s?

Looks like a manufacturing defect/ The temperature required to melt plastic like this would have to be pretty high and you would have smelled it.
This should be fixed (replaced) under warranty.

No hybrid and they are not the vented seats.

Thanks for all the input. The dealership is looking into it. As of right now they are trying to see if there have been a service reports about it and go from there. I agree the rear defrost or assembly defect sounds the most reasonable. I’ll keep you updated and again, appreciate all the advice

I see you found someone else’s post who had a similar issue.

I’m now left wondering if the “melting” happened from high temp, or chemically…

yeah I am waiting to hear back from them. It’s strange to say the least. Everyone at the dealership is stumped. Guys from the way back were even coming to check it out

Wow that looks like it would take a direct flame or some serious chemical. Interested to see what the dealer says.

Thanks man. Part of what the dealership is saying is that there are not other reported issues like this. So this will be super helpful to bring to them. Is it whole backseat tops are just part of them? Mine is straight acrossed the whole bench

Holy crap! Thank you so much @Odin43 for bringing this up, I just pulled the car seat out to double check mine (2022) and it's the same! For those interested it's most affected (you can definitely tell by touching the carpet) between the two headrests (lines in picture) but the actual "melted" area is right next to the center seat headrest on the driver side (arrow). Guess I'm headed to the dealership tomorrow...ugh!
