Boy this thing is a conundrum. Sounds decent at lower levels, but doesn’t really have much punch at volume. As soon as you turn it up the bass gets super muddy and is mainly coming out of the doors and not the sub in the back. Am I seriously going to have to rip this thing out? Anyone successfully replaced door speakers, added in-line crossovers, and/or put in a dedicated sub amp to try to straighten this thing out?

One change I made that helped was turn off the surround sound feature. Settings then Sound. Scroll up on right side of screen and surround sound button is on the bottom. Turn it off. This will balance the sound better. Then go to tune sound and turn the bass up to 3/4. Hope this helps until you decide if you want to upgrade.

Agreed 100%…. The first thing I did was to turn off the surround. Have the mid up just a touch also I believe. I think the Tundra has some kind of weird phasing thing with the front speakers or tweeters like my 4Runner JBL system did.

Added an amp and two 10" subs to the stock JBL system, turned the bass way down on the head unit, and it sound pretty decent all around with better punch. The factory processing is way messed up at higher volume levels with muddy bass but it sounds good enough for now until more options are available. Tried to install some filtering caps on the front door speakers to cut out the low frequencies but they didn't appear to change much, I need to check the resistance and make sure I got the right caps.

@mattvarnell Where did you wire your amp and subs to ? did you tap into existing speaker wire ?
