    Hello everyone.

I have been searching around for a couple hours and can’t really find a solid answer. How can you tell if coolant is getting into the tranny? 2 months ago the tranny cooler was leaking and a solenoid went out but had those fixed and it’s been running perfect. Noticed a coolant smell and having to put coolant in once a month or so. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

Any codes? Might be leaking into the combustion chamber of the engine. I'd be investigating that before anything else. Especially if you can't see any leaks or stains/drips on the truck or parking area. Blown head gasket, it will slowly leak in and go out the exhaust pipe. You can often see the drips with a bore scope stuck in the spark plug holes.

    Probably an intake valley leak.
pull the lower skid plate and have it sit overnight uncovered and see if you're leaking. Odds are it's probably the water pump leaking and it's dripping back towards the transmission.

The tow package oil cooler is separate from the radiator. No real way the coolant can get in.

Given that coolant and engine oil emulsify would it be fair to assume that ATF and coolant emulsify? Pulling the tranny dipstick will tell you quick enough if that is true and there is coolant getting in there. You can also expect levels to be rising...

    Well, now.

On my 2nd gen 4.6L it's down the passenger side of the engine, OP's model might well be different.

There isn't one... Gotta level it and do some black magic on the obd2 port to activate the levelor and you have to lay underneath and open the level indicator.

No codes at all just a faint smell after driving. Can’t really see a leak yet.

Pull the tin “skid plate” from under the rad, and look up at the water pump with a flashlight. Do you see pink crusties all around the water pump weep hole?

if it's pretty bad you can just look at the front cross-member just behind the oil filter

Another place to check is the top plastic part of the radiator for micro cracks. When it gets hot they will leak and kinda seal up when cool making it hard to spot.
