Just finished building this pit area for our back yard which were having our wedding in a few weeks

 

Living off grid on 21 acres about 10.4 miles off the main highway at the foothills of the Beartooth Mountains in Montana. Our fire pit!

I've upgraded from my orginal build.

 

This is the halfway point of the back/side yard.
Over a dozen hydrangeas 20 of loam to level it.
I had just finished building the fence.
I'm not sure about the fire pit but getting there.

Life's a freaking journey for sure, the shit we do to keep us entertained /out of trouble...
Our property is a postage stamp but we try to optimize every square inch of it.

Instead of starting a new thread, I figured I'd revive this one and call attention to some of the awesome pits already captured.

Purpose of my post: I searched the site for Breeo and found zero hits. Only some Solo Stove hits. I have a chance to purchase a Breeo at a huge discount (local business auction). For anyone who has a Breeo, I'm torn between the 30 vs the 24. 30 will actually drop right into my existing poor man's smokeless pit, 24 will require new caps to be cast. I'm curious who has them and if they regret getting whichever size, up or down.

 

we use the Solo Stove Yukon.

smokeless is necessary for us...as we have neighbors close by.

it is the size that handles precut wood. the others don't.

 

Well, the auction closed and I think I scored alright. Managed to get a Breeo X30 Stainless, with sear plate, lid, and spark screen for just a few buck more than a X24 Stainless (without accessories) at retail price. The X30 holds up to 24" logs, so it'll eat everything I have here, though the X24 probably would have as well (holds up to 16-18" logs). I'll report back once it is installed and tested. Should be a nice upgrade over the TSC fire ring I used for the DIY smokeless pit

 

I've gone gas for both home and camping.

I do sometimes miss the ritualistic part of having "real fires"... chopping kindling, building, stoking, playing with fire.

I do not miss the smoke in my eyes, the holes in my jacket, shirt, or having to put out my dog's tail from embers popping out, the buying &/or transporting wood.

The reason(s) I switched is that I find we get more enjoyment and use from them. If I build a wood fire I feel like we need to be out there for longer, and sometimes we may not want to invest the time.

With gas, both camping or at home, if we just wanna' be out there for an hour or I wanna' warm my toes by the fire for 20 minutes while having my coffee in the morning, it's okay... just turn it off when you're done.

Camping, a 20 lb. tank of propane will last for days, as opposed to having to carry 100 lbs. &/or spend $100 on wood.
Once it's been going for a bit and the lava rock starts radiating heat, the propane fire bowl puts out a decent amount of heat. I like that it's down low where I can warm my feet. On the rare occasion that we're in an actual campground, those pits are too tall... your face is burning but your feet are cold.
I also like that I can set it right next to the trailer on the patio rug, I can even have the awning out above it (Nothing has melted so far)

At home I have my fire table (and BBQ island) plumbed into the house LNG, so just turn it on and light it, and enjoy for as long or little time as I want.

I know, it's not outdoorsy or manly, and BBQ purists see me as a heretic for cooking with gas, but man it's so much easier.
