Can I haul a 5th wheel with my 2017 Toyota Tundra Crewmax 4x4 Limited?

Probably not. The more important number is your payload capacity. Most Tundra's have 1200-1500 payload, the pin weight on most 5th wheels is at least that.

Edit: On our last trip I saw 2 Tundra's pulling the smaller Grand Design Reflections. On paper the lightest pin is 1166, which is most certainly a few hundred lighter of real world. So can a Tundra pull a 5th wheel, yes. Should a Tundra pull a 5th wheel, it depends.

I've seen videos of folks towing 5th wheels with a Tundra but never seen one in person. Even in videos it looks really sketchy. A half ton pickup should be nowhere near a 5th wheel, they just aren't designed to haul them. Except maybe the Escape 5.0 or the Scamp 19' but that's only because they're probably the most lightweight and smallest 5th wheels ever made.

The big 3 won't even sell you a fifth wheel hitch for their halftons and they can all be optioned with more payload than a Tundra.

Can it? Probably, but the Tundra also "towed" the space shuttle a few hundred feet. Safely? Definitely not. As others have mentioned the pin weight alone on 99% of all 5th wheels will exceed the Tundra's payload capacity, which also must include the weight of passengers and cargo in the truck.

Also note that the pin and hitch weights listed for trailers are generally dry weights, and do not include the weight of trailer batteries, onboard generators, filled propane and water tanks, and trailer cargo and other add-ons, like solar panels and washer/dryers, etc.

Half-ton trucks, especially Tundras, are not designed for carrying that kind of weight, no matter how much they can theoretically pull.

My limited Tundra 4x4 crewmax has a payload of 1130 on the door sticker. Good luck finding a 5th wheel with a measured pin weight under that.

You could probably pull something like the Escape 5.0 or the Scamp 5th wheel... <700lb pin weight.

My son pulled a fifth wheel that was in the weight limit. The biggest problem was that with the crewman cab, it put the front of the trailer into the cab when he tried to turn. So, he up-graded his truck to a 3/4 ton.
