I was hoping I’d get shut down when I gave my notice 2 jobs ago, as that was SOP for anyone in that company that had access to sensitive data/admin access/etc. They decided to make it a discretionary call in my case and was “allowed” to finish out my notice period.

 

I apparently made them think I was trustworthy or something… it was weird. But after that they started letting other engineers stay on and finish out their two weeks. I’ll say it was probably to their advantage in my case, since I didn’t document shit up until that point haha. I did a lot of knowledge transfer and there were a lot of notes taken on all the systems I supported.

 

I go nights tomorrow, so I'm staying up tonight to swap the schedule. Ten straight... I'll like it on the paycheck.

 

Nice! I did the same thing last night, got a good 3 hour nap in this afternoon.

 

Good way to start your night hitch.

I liked night shift. Just didn't like it when I had a roommate with kids.

 

Nights are usually not busy, so they aren't terrible. I just don't rest as well during the day. That, and I hate having to call people in the middle of the night.

 

That's understandable, I usually had no issues sleeping. It just killed my social life as no one wanted to do stuff on my nights off cause they'd have to work the next morning.

I just woke up from a what was supposed to be a 1 hour nap. Turned into almost 3 hours.

 

So, you up for the night or how is this going to play out? Lol

 

My previous company treated everyone really badly - both contractors and employees - when they did big layoffs in 2020 and soured their relationship with a lot of folks in what's generally a pretty small, tight-knit industry. Oh well, they deserve whatever they get in the future.

Had to work nights in 2018 for a long stretch. When I was on days, my wife (fiancee at the time) would routinely stay up past midnight. Once I was working nights, she always managed to be tired on my nights off and want to go to bed by 10.

$30k for a 14' boat is a no-go for me..... I can sell you a 16' tarp if you like though

 

It's steep for sure, but all those fully welded "unsinkable" aluminum boats are.

 

For another $15k I can have a 20' NorthRiver SeaHawk and do quite a bit more w/it....

 

I got up and played some cribbage with Mom (she has no set schedule) until almost 5 AM. I was in a pleasant sleepy fugue for those 3 hours. Slept for about 5.5-6 hours, and now dozing off and on.

Not sure how I'll feel in 4 hours when I get ready for work.

 

On shift for the first of 10 graveyards.
