its like they built 285 as a race track around the city. i remember back in the 80's where 285 was closer to outside the city.

I’m averaging 15.5 with my Hybrid. Not sure but maybe upgrading to Toyo 34” tires on stock wheels playing a factor. Oh well, I didn’t by a truck for fuel economy. Also don’t miss the 5.7 one bit.

2021 vs 2022, I’m pretty much bang on what fuelly reports as well… 2 to 2.5mpg better than my 2019 was.

    I found:
    - the gas milage calculator on the dash cluster I changed to " per trip" versus " per tank ".......so every time your start the truck you are at zero and a new calculation starts
    - on the NAV screen, press the car button and it gives you what the vehicle is doing, press History then clear all data

So now you have the dash cluster doing A-b calculations, and the NAV is doing over all. Kinda funny how my milage got better.

Once I did this, I have zero issues meeting the factory projected mileage.

Note....I have a Hybrid and am bone stock. I have had 29 MPG on a 3 hour run thru a fairly condensed area with stop and go's and minimal hills

yeah cant really give a solid answer comparing our 2023 (3 fill ups) to the 2018 (249 fill ups) yet.

I've been playing with the gas pedal recently trying to get a better mpg.

When taking off from stand still and holding the RPM between 1700-1800 RPM, the turbos would spool to around 2.5psi to bring the speed to 45-50mph, I was able to maintain 19ish mpg mixed. If tried not to spool the turbos by applying the gas gently to get to 45-50mph, my mpg would be 17ish mixed. My guess is that the slow acceleration actually uses more gas.

Anybody ever look at your trip reports on the Toyo App? It lists harsh braking, acceleration and cornering. My observations where I live most other drivers around me are practicing for NASCAR. I get an excellent every report and getting solid MPG while going 8-10 over the limit.

Same route i take everyday from my house to memorial park in houston is 25 miles on fwy with 5-10-% in city driving. My 2020 tundra get 16.5mpg and 2023 tundra gets 18mpg.

I don’t drive tundras for mpg but i’m very disappointed in stated mpg by toyota for new gen. IMO stated mpg justifies v6 twin turbo, reality mpg would have us saying give us back the v8 and upgrade it

Have you " manipulated " the Hybrid around town? Providing you are flat or slight down hill, pull away from a stop get it to about 20 MPH, little goose of gas then take your foot off......when the tach drops to zero from the engine shutting off, apply light gas pedal pressure and keep the batteries under the 50% mark on the gauge. I have drive 40 MPH on batteries alone for extended periods right until you hit a small hill or something. When I am bombing around town my engine only runs when I start from a dead stop.

    It took some practice

I have done that, in fact while on cruise at 45mph I went 14 blocks on battery before I had to stop.

Don't care about the mpg but the high mpg numbers can be addicted. Started MTB a few years back and got myself a Yeti XX1 mountain bike when I can't do a jump or a 3' drop. :)

It's all because I appreciate the finest in life.

they do under stats, just not in a fancy format like the webpage.

i prefer the stats page in the app than the website version

    18 fuel ups : 249
    23 fuel ups : 3

Yeah, I'm a simple guy, I prefer the computer do the work and chart it for me... ;) I think that's why we wanted computers in the first place, right? ;)

ps. I also bitch about missing the third hand to drive the mouse while my other 2 hands type .... getting closer with voice activation but ... ;)

I’ve also been messing with this and got mpg in the 30s for a 30+ minute drives, driving around my area. Certainly have to have favorable terrain for this.

But I’m about to put a lift and bigger tires on. I’m wondering if I’ll still be able to do this. Eg if the hybrid engages differently with the new effective gearing.

Lift will affect milage and speed as the wind gets up underneath so the truck has to work harder ( ever seen a Nascar with a 6" lift? ) , tires weigh a ton so yes, that will affect as well. Sorta what you are looking for, I banged around in a lifted truck with big tires for 12 years, it looked cool. Now, I am older and want the comfy ride. Personal choice but I will say, the people lifting and adding tires/wheels...these trucks look so good.

Also my wife said she would kill me if I lifted this one.....so thats a factor LOL

haha I hear you there. I am older now and am finding I actually like the chrome on my truck and do care about mpg. Lol.

I wasn’t sure on a lift because of this, but now that I have the truck, I just feel like it needs it. Lucky for me my wife agrees :)

But I did decide to go with the TRD lift. I figure if I stay with Toyota parts, it will help keep the comfy ride even if I am sacrificing some mpg.
