Ford has a big shiny plate on the tailgate of their Platinum and a badge on the back of King Ranch trucks advertising it. I'm betting Toyota will eventually add more badging to all their higher-end Tundra trims as part of future refreshes. I mean, lets face it...lots of OEM's kinda follow Ford's lead.

In traffic, they all look just like the SR from the back...and even from the front unless you know what to look for.

Except Ford seems to have done a better job of developing their hybrid system so there's that.

Im picking up what your putting down. You're talking about the gigantic grills arent you? All those jealous Ford guys wondering why Ford just can't give them a grill you could fly a 747 though like the Tundra.

toyota platinum badging has been only regulated to 2 badges, one on each front door. nothing more since the badging came out on the 2nd gen tundra externally.

edit: and most higher trim model badging across all models are usually regulated to 2 badges, one on each side.

Ford can keep that sh$t. IMHO, that crap is gaudy. I like that Toyota keeps that stuff relatively mild compared to other manufacturers.

massive/gaudy/large/flashy badging is similar to Mercedes making their emblems so large. It's to catch the attention to show people you paid a lot of money for something and is utilized as a status symbol. kinda like how people will go around and say they drive a "denali". bitch! denali is a trim level, not a vehicle make!
but it's to highlight a large amount of money spent for their vehicle.
i have a PRO sequoia and actually prefer not to have the "TRD PRO" badges slapped on sides of the doors and rear hatch. seems to fall in line with the "denali" class. all the rest of their vehicles say "yukon, sierra, etc", but get that "denali" package and suddenly it's a "denali".
    they can have that nonsense

The giant "tundra" on the tailgate of the 3rd gens is terrible, imo (and I actually love the updated front of the truck), and very obviously heisted from the blue oval's "F150" in the same size and font plastered across the back of their new models.

It looks good. I think if they shrunk the size of the trailhunter a bit and put it in the bottom corner, it would look better. But I get the desire to advertise the trim level to others on the road. With that being said, I don't like paying so much to drive a billboard, advertising for a company, lol.

well at least the stamped letters are color matched instead of some big chrome lettering.

I have the dealer remove the plate cover and any dealer stickers while I'm there, just to add insult to injury.

This looks awesome. Not sure I'm ready for a $100k msrp truck w/ 25k dealer (market adjustment) markups.

If you're part of the Toyota Owners' Intersection, you've probably seen something related to trim offerings and warranties. I won't get into the details of the last survey I conducted because I'm "sworn to secrecy." But this was a topic that came up in one of the surveys. Hopefully enough people answered the way I did, lol.

True. I'm not super into camping anymore, so this would be overkill for me. But like you're saying, even though I'm not "building a rig" I'm slowly making an "improved limited" trim level out of a 4x4 Sr5 just doing the things I like about a limited, but none of the things I dont.

I suppose that if you bought the upscale trim to impress other people then you want plenty of large badging. If you bought the vehicle because it has the features you want for yourself then the badging doesn't matter.

True story. I would bet a lot of the people that buy a vehicle to impress someone will likely have said vehicle repoed or traded in to be upside down on the next vehicle. That is obviously excluding the rich folk.

Ignoring the fact that the generator function is pretty useful to a lot of people, can you explai how the Powerboost somehow isnt for off the line performance? Ive heard its pretty great actually.

Why is performance and MPG mutually exclusive? Ford seems to achieve both as the Powerboosts real world mpg’s are a significant improvement from the normal 3.5L.

Like I said, fords system is better

Only badging I would want is the raptor appliqué . When they had a shortage and stuck XLT tail gates with a raptor 3M badge it looks terrible

I like the smaller stamp of the 2.5 gens. Just my personal preference is all. But yea I get the throwback look too. A lot of the old Daarrrdge's had them in addition to the fords.

Same. I like the smaller on the tail sgatw and I like the side stamping for the TRD pro. The TRD pro stamping on the gen 3 doesn’t look right

Definitely agree with the notion of not being too loud, too flashy or too verbose about the exact trim level that you purchased and how much money you spent. Ultimately, what matters is all the features that you received for your money and whether you're satisfied with them. Not showing people who could care less how much money you either have or have access to borrowing.

That being said, I think the person that purchases a Toyota is not the same as the person that buys a denali or an audi.

Yeah Toyota was not clear about being laser focused on one aspect vs. another. "The Focus groups said they didn't need it" is simply Toyota-ese for "This time around we didn't see certain things as worth investing in if we're still not selling 700K trucks per year regardless." My powerboost hangs with my old Challenger Rt through the 1/4, can do 18-19 mixed if driven gently, and power my house. It is all possible in one package if the manufacturer thinks there's enough of a potential return to spend the money.

One top cosmetic thing thing I hate about any top level Trim pickups is the huge shiny glued on metal tailgate piece with the Trim level carved into it. It gives me the same vibe as the rapper who shows up in public with 20 pounds of flashy jewelry hanging off his neck, or the chromed out lifted 78 Monte Carlo on 24s. I did not go with an ultra Luxo trim but if I had it might have bothered me to the point of looking to replace the tailgate with a lower trim model.

I've never understood that either. Sometimes it makes a little sense, in part of my brain, as it tells you they are local (I live in a big state). I take that crap off first thing when it gets home, ANY stickers on paint get the same treatment.

The whole Texas Ranch naming was pretty obviously a copy of Ford...I've had two Tundras but have never liked the giant grill trend...
