You could probably get away with 5.5” but any shorter and you start to limit it’s use. I wouldn’t want it any smaller than a Dragonfly2.

 

Finished the sheath for this ball bearing Damascus knife

 

Finished this morning!
This little serpent fang spike has pretty limited applications. Sort of a covert assassin tool. Client is in Canada. 35 layer twisted Damascus with natural canvas micarta scales.

 

That sheath turned out beautifully. What color is that handle? It almost looks purple-ish but it might be the lighting.

 

its black/red 2ply micarta. I tried to dye the sheath as a compliment to the whole scheme

 

Begs the question - what’s he using it for?

The client is not me unfortunately. I could see it being good for bleeding fish though....

 

He denied being either SWAT or special forces. I’m not sure. I also wondered if I should have omitted my makers mark, lol.

After you have used that one for a bit, please report back about how you like the straight edge. I have found that edge to be perfect for a box cutter and a bit difficult to sharpen evenly.

My modified Opinel #8 and handmade sheath. I filed down the rising point into a drop point, forced patina by sticking it in a potato overnight, sanded and shaved down the handle, drilled a lanyard hole and re-stained the handle.

 

Much improvement!

 

Another neck knife. Still need to make a sheath and lanyard. Scales are stained and stabilized native maple burl

it functions that way with comfort. There’s several other very comfortable holds, due to the finger notches and jimping

Most of the knives HFB puts out are S35VN and S45VN, which are outstanding steel; but I wanted a Crow Jr. in CPM3v or 4v, or MagnaCut. I hit several drops in a row with no luck, and just happened to check in one day last week and there it was...

Fantastic!!! The more folks post about HFB, the more I want to acquire one. Don't have a need yet but when has that ever stopped a purchase

 

That is an appealing knife,, very cool in fact!!

 

First off, there’s nothing wrong with being a knife junkie. Embrace it! Reconcile to it and enjoy your passion. I do, lol
Second, I fully agree about HFB. They make some fine knives and they really understand how to put it all together.
