What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Yea the trip was great, just me and the dog. Thanks, im liking that my camper shell came with the truck so i dont mind making it my own and drilling holes into it and such.

Im guessing the "skylight" youre referring to is the MaxxAir fan I have installed. Its great in the summer time!

 

I’ve been working on upgrading my dash lights to led. And every other light in the interior. It looks so amazing now and I can actually like see inside my truck! Also replaced my headlights to new ones since I could literally see nothing one night driving in the rain. Got those adjusted and it’s a night and day difference! My dash looks amazing so far with just the 194 bulbs replaced! Waiting on my t5 led bulbs to come in then I’ll replace the remaining bulbs. I bought Sylvania bulbs for the 194’s and I can’t remember the brand for the t5/74. But they were the only ones I found on Amazon that claim voltage regulation for the leds. Didn’t want them to be unregulated like most of the bulbs I saw and die prematurely. The regulated ones I bought claim 12-18v input and should hopefully last a long time. They appear to be a good design.

What status lights should not be converted to led? I’ve seen conflicting reports on that. I know the gas light shouldn’t be but what the other lights?

 

Quad lock dash/windshield kit with the mag wireless charger, and motorcycle vibration absorber.

Hopefully I'll be able to record my next wreck or fatality in high-fidelity.


I'm not sure how well the motorcycle vibration thing is going to pair with this as I think it was designed to be used horizontally versus vertically as I have it here, but here we go!

Well I filed an insurance claim this morning, some @$$hole rear ended me on the 95 going to work….I always knew keeping my trailer hitch on was a good idea. Maybe i can sell the wife on steel bumpers now.

+1 what Shifty' said. A buddy of mine had his new Benz totaled when some 19 year old girl on a cell phone ran a red light and T-boned him. Of course she was on the govt dole and uninsured.

 

The card was expired in February and I didn’t catch it until after I had left so we’ll see, I do have uninsured motorist coverage so not sure if that’ll help out. I definitely wanted to make that claim to have everything inspected in case there’s more damage than what I can see.

Solid chance they just failed to put the new card in the glove box. I think mine is probably 4ish years old, back from when I got the truck. I just pull up the USAA smartphone app when I need my insurance info, easier that way.

Hope it all pans out. Any clue how fast they were going when they hit you? Whiplash the next day is a bitch! Flexeril and other benzos should help loosen you up and get some ZZZzzzs, but starting now with a regimen of Ibuprofen or Naproxen Sodium are what's gonna take the edge off from any over-stress or soft tissue microtears...

If I remember correctly I believe I was doing about 50 and if I had to guess I’d say he was doing about 70, traffic northbound on the 95 usually moves about 80 that time of day but there’s always a slinky effect at the base of hills. I think ol boy wasn’t paying attention when he schwacked me. Currently waiting for insurance to reach out to schedule an adjuster to assess the damage…..but while I wait…

I won't throw you under the bus like the other guy b/c everyone can have their own opinion and experiences, but I will stand up for Chiropractors. Mine has fixed 3 separate issues for me. Including my jaw clinching. Im sure my dentist probably doesn't appreciate it as they won't be able to sell me a day guard for me teeth now.

 

Looks like you need to crank those down at least 2-3 more threads, just to the point the bushings are starting to get not-vertical, starting to compress, if that makes sense.

Speaking of getting stuff done during lunch break, I don't know why people make such a big deal out of the mini-projector installs for our trucks. I was able to prep both housings in about 3-4 minutes (remove the shroud) without breaking anything using my hand and some snips (pictured). From there, the worst part was firmly seating the rubbers down over the mini-projector bulb base enough that the supplied washer was proud.

Anyway, with 20 minutes time, I'm the proud new owner of two H4 projector headlights. I'm out about $240 if my memory and math are right. I went with CAPA certified DEPO housings from RockAuto, and bought the BraveWAY single bulb packages.

I lined up the light housing with the parallel lines etched into the reflector of the housing, thinking that should get me roughly in the ballpark. I may or may not get a chance to install today, we'll see. Long day ahead, and Saturday is closing in, it'll probably happen then, I'll drop some before/after shots.

Random shots - tools required, the shroud pieces, and hey ... DEPO actually uses fairly decent bulbs in their housings...

As for the process, really, take the housing out of the box, pull the rubber, pull the bulb, squeeze the back of the clip to remove it. Stick your fingers inside to hold the shroud's post, then unscrew. Use the shroud's post to maneuver the shroud toward the opening to cut it in half, then pull the pieces. Just be careful not to crack the plastic tab that holds the bulb retainer clip. Reinstall the retainer clip, install the bulb, remove its heat sink, clip it in, then install the rubber boot, working the inner ring of the boot over the shank of the bulb. Screw the heatink down until flush with the fixture - it won't get flush if the rubber boot isn't snug around the base of the light.

Took my 05 Sequoia for a transmission drain and fill since I recently replaced my OEM radiator (original with 233K it cracked) with an aluminum. That has been a saga. Went with a recommendation for a particular brand. The first one came in with the side brackets mounted upside down. The second had torn up threads at the transmission heat exchanger fittings and leaked transmission fluid. The third was fine, no leaks, until today. Same place, at the threads.

Called the company for a refund. Just ordered a Denso from Rock Auto. Should have just done that at the beginning. The worst part is I modified my fan shroud to fit the aluminum radiator. I'll get one from a local pick and pull sometime.

That is awesome. I didn't even know these mini projectors were an option and I don't recall anyone else doing it. Did you order new housings because your old ones are oxidized?

You are not the first person to pay a lot of money for an aluminum radiator and then have issues. Which company was it?

I'll stick with Denso on my next replacement.

To their credit, though, they have been very responsive and quick to get replacements set up. I just don't have confidence in the radiators. I can't take the chance of losing my transmission due to a faulty material.

Another reason I always keep my hitch on. If someone is dumb enough to not pay attention to the giant SUV in front of them, then they deserve to have a 2" ball embedded into their engine block.

I have brand new OEM housings, maybe 18ish months old on my truck at the moment. I didn't feel like there were a lot of viable options on the market back then for easy, no-bake projector installs. Then - I thought it was you who posted it - I saw that video of the guy from FL who's on the FB group who has a YouTube channel with 1st gen content who did the CO projectors (see below) and figured, "Ah, what the hell ... DEPO's housings are cheap enough, BraveWAY is selling the exact same bulb as CO for cheaper, and if I don't like it, someone will probably buy them... and if not, I'm out $60 on bulbs, I'll swap to a oven-based solution!"

I broke down and bought everything about 10 days ago. It all got here over the last few days. Retrofit was a breeze. Here's that guy's video. If you search this forum for BraveWAY, you'll find links to the parts I used. It'll probably take me 5x longer to find a clean, neat way to mount the drivers/ballasts and aim the lights than it did to finish the retrofit. But I knew what I was doing and the danger to avoid already after watching this:
